I got a Galaxy S+. Any tips or things I need to know about android?
 
Yeah. 3G Watchdog is probably the first app you should install, unfortunately :)
 
Get a databundle of 100mb or more. You can get past this if you have wifi access at most places you frequent.

If not you can turn off your data to make your phone last a week, and you won't incur data charges. But it kind of defeats the purpose of having a smartphone.

I just leave all my stuff on and charge it every night while I sleep.

Sync all your contacts with google rather, it will save you some trouble if you choose another android phone later on.

Download tapatalk as it is free in the samsung store.

That's about all I can think of.
 
Check that any apps you download from the Android Market are set to NOT update themselves automatically

Oh, and check under "Settings - Accounts & Sync" that the apps in that sections are also set (individually mind you) not to refresh their data feeds automatically either (unless you want them to of course)

1st apps you MUST install
Security, some means to track your phone if stolen/lost
Data management if you on a caped wallet, I would recommend Onovo against 3G watchdog purely because of the firewall functions. (Block apps from accessing 3G and limit them to wifi only)

Thanks for all the replies. I have wifi at work and will probably be able to set up wifi at home as well, so data usage shouldn't be too much of a problem. I have installed Onavo, still figuring it out tough.

Do I need an antivirus program?

Only if you are planning to install apps outside the Android Market.

To date Google has been very good at removing applications that do deceive people. It also removes the apps from the phones that installed them.
 
I'm a big Opera Mini fan. I'd also suggest whatsapp, greader, twitter. I suppose it depends what you're interested in.

Does the voip work well for you on viber with the Gio?

OP, if you have wifi everywhere, I would disable my data everywhere and just leave my wifi on. With my original SGS it lasted longer that way than the normal way. But that was with Darky's rom.
 
Apps I would suggest are:

ADW Launcher EX because of the many customizing options. Tapatalk to conveniently access online forums on your phone. Opera Mini because it can save you some money when browsing the Internet. Tweetcaster is a nice Twitter App with some nice features.

Only tried it with wifi and it works perfectly, need to test 3g.
 
How much data does push emails take? I'm running the hotmail app and in on say already over 6mb used up

Push should take very little data as for how much your mail should take, depends on what people send you and how many you get a day.

Is it an initial sync that maybe took up most of the data?

Sorry dont use Hotmail so can not say if it is data heavy or not.
 
Also try Plume, well featured twitter client :) if you aren't happy with the official Facebook look at friendcaster too.. oh and try our Google Currents, its awesome, but you'll need an APK.. on the Gaming side check out Samsung Apps, lots of freebies on there and on Get jar Gold..:) welcome to Android!
