So I underestimated the iPad....

What software are you using on your iphone to create the hotspot?
I'm using MyWi. Mind you my handset is JB and I purchased the app from Cydia

The one thing that concerns me is the size of the device. I've been looking at 7" tablets like the Tab and the Nook Color and they seem like they'd fit my lifestyle more. Anyone care to speak to that?

I had my eye on the Archos 70 for a long time. 7" just seems like the perfect size. But going for a 10" makes the gap between Cell phone and PC closer. Where as getting a 7" would make me want to go buy a laptop after it also :p

No one too worried about the new one coming out early next year?
Would also love one but I think once it has a camera, it will make a lot more sense.

I've really become taken with the Nook Color, especially since they rooted it. $250, 1024.600 capacitive ips, 800mhz arm8 cortex, 512mb, 8gb....it's a great deal.

Rumours and more rumours.

Turns out I'm going to need a second micro-fibre cloth. I keep poking my laptop screen :o

Aha. Another convert. I got my iPad about 4 months ago. What an excellent device.

This is something I've been looking for forever. I'm a person who loves to sit outside. I used to sit outside with my laptop, drink a glass of wine, barbecue, etc while I did my e-mails, read the news, etc. Needless to say, it was cumbersome. The iPad has changed all that.

I use it in the morning while drinking coffee to catch up on the latest news with the BBC (etc) app.
I use it to check my e-mail when I'm on the move and the Blackberry doesn't suffice
I use it on the plane to listen to music or watch something, take notes, etc
I use it on the couch while the GF watches TV. She didn't like me on the laptop because she thought I was working during chill time... :o

It has really become an in between for me. Bigger than a mobile, smaller than a laptop.

I also have a new Macbook Pro, but I can't bring myself to loose my Blackberry to an iPhone. I just can't. I actually just bought the BB Bold over the iPhone 4. How did you manage that one bwana?

Simple, I carry both :)

Also got the wifi 16gb. When I take it out, I use my iPhone as a wifi hotspot.
The best thing about the IPad is the abundance of software available. Tried a few of the android tablets and have not found one as responsive as the IPad. Also JB the IPad opens it up other functionalities.
Only thing I need now is a good movie player. VLC does not seem to work correctly with 3.2.2. Anyone recommend a good movie player?

- True multi-tasking features
- Internal file system management
- Memory management
- Non approved apple apps via cydia
There are a lot that others can mention but these are what matter to me. Having an apple system with the flexibility of Windows. :)

Interesting - what does it do differently?

Lol, you just put petrol in a diesel. ;)

As a result of getting the ipad I've now got a fairly redundant hackintosh netbook and may end up altering my plans of upgrading my 13". :o

If you look at IOS4, all apps are placed on pause mode if supported. I find that the dock starts getting congested with previously run apps and you need to physically remove it app or your battery will drain quickly.
A JB iphone/ipad uses a program called backgrounder & multiflow (GUI) that works a lot like the windows 7 switch screen for all running apps. You can choose which apps you want to keep running in the background. They are not "paused".

Depends what you use your macbook for...
An IPad only does specific things better. I still have my 3.8GHz Core i5 to do the rest of my other stuff.

We're going to need a handbag one of these days! I also carry two phones, my BB and a R500 cheap 'o... Might just upgrade that to an iPhone 4... Maybe I should wait for the iPhone 4s? :-)
Sorry, even I can't rock a man-bag. :D

Data still costs too much for me to use the iPhone the way it was intended and anyway I prefer the physical keyboard on the blackberry so I doubt I'll upgrade my 3G anytime soon. Right now its more of a GPS and "honey have a look on find my iphone and tell me where I parked the car . . ." device than an actual phone :D

Thanks - I didnt realise I could remove them. :)
