so just how bad is it...

You can manage the impact of lag when it comes to pve, where it kills me *literally* is in pvp. The biggest challenges are as a healer in reactive healing situations or a dispeller. Have a good relationship with your guild and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Pvp is a different matter. I play a warrior primarily, which is tough at the best of times (charge bugs etc). I occassionally get situations where the player is in melee range on my client but I fail to hit them due to server latency.

Yea I dunno how you rogues / melee dps'ers play on our latency.

I would throw a brick through my screen if i had to hear the whole time ... not in range... not in range... not in range... or ... not behind target ... not behind target. Even though on your side it shows you right at the target in position !

We hunters kuk off on shot rotations ... but hell. I would NEVER play a melee dps class !

On bosses its easy - Just stand on top of another melee dps in the raid :D

Ok but... since 99% of the bosses requires melee to run in and out of range to avoid some form of AOE, how long does it take you to get back into position though ? Dont you loose a ton of dps time ? And I can imagine if the tank turns/moves the boss for some reason, melee dps range is completely off again ?

Worst melee is enhancement shaman, have to do melee pewpew AND get spell rotations in :-(

im dps is normally at the top of the meters normally just rogues and hunters that is better, now and then a sp or lock. But my damage done is always not so high because of lagg i dont get so much spells in,but the dmg i deal is high

:D

I think this affects ranged as well. Just about the whole raid has to be moving most of the time. There is always something that inteferes with spell rotation or causes you to cancel a cast. fire and manoeuvre is what its about now. I found healing with a paladin quite difficult. gets hectic when the entire raids hp drops to a third. no AoE healing to speak of. priests seem to be needed now to keep all the dps alive :D

Agreed... But with playing a class like a hunter, I can run away from the AOE area and still nuke. I dont have to be standing still on the right position like eg. behind a boss and ensure I am in melee range. I know some casters cant since they must stand still to cast... but we hunters have loads of instant cast shots, like arcane shots, serpent stings, aimed shots, kill shots (when its up). So I can literrally never stop firing.

If I stop 5 yards left or right from the AOE area, I can continue nuking... with melee its not the case, you have to be in position, in melee range. The few times I tried playing a melee alt it was incredibly annoying.
I find it very interresting that we actually have melee SAFFER's that manage to raid successfully on our latency.

I gave up healing on my pala in Ulduar... I just couldnt deal with the crap figures caused by 1) latency and 2) sorry state of pala healing atm... She is now raid ready dps Ret and is kicking ass at an average 3k in 10mans and 3.5 - 4k in 25 mans. Similarly my druid kitty, who is lesser geared than my pala, clocks 4k dps in Naxx 10 and has been over 5k on fights like Thaddius 25. Oh, and Im playing on 200-300ms 384kbps unshaped Webafrica ADSL line.

I would agree about pvp tho... You just dont see it coming... esp in WG... :(

In OS25 pugs I still seem to be on top of the dps list with my rogue with +4k, despite the flame walls. However in Naxx where you have to chase Grobulus the whole time, it does lack behind.

The thing that pees on my battery is everytime WoW releases a patch all my addons go out the door & as a mutilate rogue you have more dot timers to watch than an anesthetist & without the proper addons there's no hope. I really wish WoW had proper apps instead of relying on other people to write addons for THEIR game.

As a rogue used to have no problems playing either PvE or PvP. Thats with a 300-350ms latency. Thats the highest it can go for pvp I am afraid.

However once you go above that you just give up in PvP. In PvE its playable, but not enjoyable at all.

This was all back in TBC.
