I have the paid features, yet I find that they are (largely, anyway) replaced by notifications. In particular, with CyanogenMod you can even have a count in your notification icons. Just wondering, is all. The beauty of Android is customising it to work for you.

I don't have a custom ROM.

Along with custom notification tones and LED colours and blink rates, I also have pop up notifications for email and sms. All that was missing for me were the notification badges on the home screen/dock.

Can you post a pic of the count in your notifications? That sounds winning, also.
