So my Pi got fried today

Super upset. Went out in the morning for a mountain biking run, came home 4 hours later and massive thunderstorm. Of all the flipping appliances in the house, somehow only my Pi's network controller got hit. Everything else in the house still okay.

Pi works fine, external drive works fine, SD card works fine, just the flipping eth0 controller porked. Now I need to wait till Monday to go get a new one before I can get my NAS / SABNZB / seedbox back up.

Know the feeling man. Also use mine as a NAS/Torrent box/SABNZB. During the load shedding period, I told my brother to just pull the power cord out and then put it back in as a quick-fix to remount the EXT HDD. Memory card ended up getting corrupted.

Granted, my Pi still works fine, but its been a b**** setting up everything again. Last thing I intend to setup is an auto disk-imager for backup purposes.

Maybe, but I need it to have out of the box support for raspbian /debian. I'm not in the mood to muck about troubleshooting to get one to work :/

I ended up getting one of these

With a little tweaking in the /etc/network/interfaces it now works. Apparently the on board network controller runs on the same bus as the USB, so using this setup I haven't had any performance decreases. Ima happy camper now
