I'm really skeptical signing up to pay R200 a month for 24 months away because I might not get coverage. I just wish they offer the 10GB in prepaid. I really hate contracts.
Seriously now.....R200 is a few beers at the local pub.
And you still COMPLAIN about it? I guess some people will always moan and bitch, even if it's the best mobile broadband deal available in South Africa today.
Anyway 24 month data contract is way too long.
My Post is not directed at any one,
Step 1. Buy Prepaid 8ta Sim Card
Step 2. Follow the instructions on the thread/post below:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/346929-HOW-TO-MAKE-YOUR-8TA-PREPAID-SIM-NON-ROAMING
Step 3. Test Coverage!!
STEP 2 is very very very important, with out it there is no point in testing for coverage!
Those three steps are old now, there should really be no more posts from people worrying about coverage issues or even about a coverage map ..... yet we still get them
All I can deduce from this is that, this sticky:
HOW TO MAKE YOUR 8TA PREPAID SIM NON-ROAMING
Is completely overlooked and hence not read. The solution is just to make a new sticky with a title, Testing For Coverage, or some other title which is equally obvious
Apologies for my rant![]()
ASAIK you can cancel at any time, you just have to pay an R800 cancel fee..... Can the 8ta Rep Confirm this?
I think 20 R/Gb price in 2 years time will still be a cheap price in 2 years.
'twas easy to find... banner ad on main page: http://www.8ta.com/plans/postpaid-data/i5promo/Good to know the deal is still available. The 8ta website is really useless, can't find anything about the 10GIG special on there, even if you Google it.
Really thinking of getting this - I have been paying R189 for 500mb (later 600MB) on Vodacom prepaid, at least for the same price I will have 20times more data now. Where I live I have good Vodacom and MTN data signal, and the 8ta coverage map just covers my area, so it should work, but I'll just double check with the local 8ta store.

ok so i got an 8ta prepaid sim, and went home-- only getting mtn edge roaming..
sigh..
but at work it said 3G so i was happy to get it anyways..
went into telkom shop and got the 10gb special.
went home and guess what: the 10Gb sim gives me full hspda at home and at work!
strange hey?
so i guess the bit abotu using a prepaid sim card first to test coverage is not 100% accurate!
i'm happy i'm covered tho!

AFAIK, all phones have an option where you manually select the network. If you then select MTN, it will work the same as the factory default.Would I be able to revert back to the MTN roaming factory settings on my prepaid sim if it doesn't pick up the Telkom Network.
This is AFTER I authorize it to only roam on the 8ta network.
