So this showed up.

I have read that you can slow the metabolism of your hard drive and stop the spread of this infection by taking it out and leaving it in your fridge overnight.

Other than that, you can try to build a new system and go to the same links you got it from and see if there is a cure out.

No, you don't want to cause condensation on the drive-platters due to the temperature changes. Hard-drives are supposed to run warm. Best way to get rid of the virus is to check how many RPM's the drive is, divide that number by 100 to work out seconds (i.e. 5400RPM/100 = 54 seconds) and then stick it into the microwave (at 900W - not higher or lower) for that period of time. You can also "slowly" fix it by decreasing the wattage, but doubling the time - works all the time.

Yeah I did this when I was infected, worked perfectly! I used a 1000W microwave and divided by 105 (ie: 7200RPM/105 = 69 seconds)
You also forgot to mention to OP that the HDD needs to be on a plate, not the glass disc inside the microwave.

Looks like fune, almost feel like infecting myself and giving it a go.
What happens when you enter safe mode, a virus needs to run at start-up to be of any use.

Well the site is back up. Just don't forget to remove the actual virus.
Also what anti virus you used?

used the opportunity to upgrade to a full ssd system. now running a 120 gb ocz ssd and a 480 gb mx 100.

I formatted the old hdd 5400 rpm. still debating if its even worth putting back in. its 500 gb.

i used MSE.

I was able to backup my files but the ransomware deleted all my system restores except for 12:54 this morning which, lo and behold, was after infection. so idk if the encrypted files are still encrypted/infected on my external hdd. all pictures and word docs so far seem useless, but programs and videos work as does music.

Installing win7 now, postibg on my phone.

nothing of value was lost though, just some porn and a few games. this was not a work pc it was a gaming pc and i wasnt playing any games atm anyways.

Do you know exactly how you got it?

Do you know exactly how you got it?
it showed up after my gf plugged her tablet into my pc but tbh it coulda been from an email too, i get a lot of emails daily from coworkers and i doubt the people on the other side even know what malware is, let alone ransonware.

@OP, do you play pirated games or use keygens etc?

Yes, but i havent pirated a game since... November? It was Rugby 08 from tpb. but ive used thst same link before and got nothing bad so **** knows.

So MSE didnt help me. this is my first 'virus' ive gotten in many many years.

Recommendations for a superior anti virus or anti malware that is as unintrusive as MSE?

Oh ... the gf did it ......

or /// someone at work has it in for you

Well the emails have a higher chance of being opened at work

maybe someone has it in for the work pcs? about 75 people were ccd inro a chain email recently.

but idk.

Something like this would really hinder our work though since we heavily rely on documentation and images...

Aaah I feel your pain.

Sometime back, I was playing online with no antimalware or antivirus and one of the freeware apps brought something similar with it.

Lucky I had most important info backed up ............ reformatted anyway, and havent made the same mistake twice.
