Well, the best option is to do a clean OS reinstallation. Sorry :(

EDIT:

Install a Linux distro (I recommend Debian 8 Testing/Ubuntu 15.04) alongside your Windows OS and use it for browsing the interwebs only! Play games/watch videos on Windows. That's it!

To this day, I still have no idea how you guys get these viruses. I've only ever gotten viruses from other people's flash drives! How on earth did this one land on your hard drive?

Do you play GTA V and use mods, OP?

Eh, lets not be pedantic here. If he's not using mods for GTA V on PC, then we can rule out that being a possible source for the malware. Quite a few other game mods have been the delivery vehicles for other malware including one similar to this, so its worthwhile looking into what OP might have clicked on or used that caused his PC to be infected in the first place.

Let's see ... if I was a malware developer where would I put my stuff?

In pirate games and keygens, of course!

But I don't want to give the game away and lose that infection vector, so let it count down for a few months before being activated. That way the victims will never know where it came from. And in addition it can spread via flash drives and the LAN.

Agreed. So easy to just have an image updated every now and again for a restore (especially if you catch on shyte and have no AV. ) Or just use these times to reformat your machine and make it nice and fast again :p
 
I read some time ago that if you boot off a live linux disc you can access all your files because the encryption is done in Windows. Does that work or is it for something else? Does this cryptolocker actually rewrite all your files in encrypted format?

if encrypts everything into a "zip" file with an extension something like .cxc or something
 
Turn off flash for your browser, keep windows updates ON, use a select few trusted applications, check the comments on torrents, don't be a downy, use adblockers and avoid plugging downy flashdrives in.

EZ.
