In the Namibian desert...
Of late I have been thinking a lot about this....

All those celestial bodies floating around up there, with one or two of them having planet earth's name attached to them..

The world's military powers building up their stockpiles, saber rattling abound across the entire Northern Hemisphere...

Increased Radiation levels in the Pacific and over Europe....

Deep down, we know it's only a matter of time before the curtain comes down....

I was wondering, would it be safer to be in a city or in the countryside when the day arrives?

I was wondering, do any of you have a Plan B for the upcoming event?

Perhaps on a yacht out on the world's plastic filled ocean, escaping the madness....?

Me? Well, I have been planning for the last two years how it's going down,

I have assembled a team of mate's all with skills, including the chairman of the local gun club....

I know of an abandoned mining camp in the middle of the desert, a rocky outcrop surrounded by a sea of sand, abandoned back in 1975 that has a fresh water spring that very few know about..... A mere 2km from a desolate coast, a coastline full of fish and other maritime delights..... The nearest living person at least 200km away..... in all directions...

Back in the day, the lads staying up there even had a heated swimming pool...

This place is in a highly restricted part of the country, so untouched for the last forty years, I reckon when the balloon goes up, this might be an ideal place to setup MooseUtopia!

Where do you plan to be?

/Moose obviously bored today ......

I've learned that being in close proximity to Keith Richards will allow you to survive anything.

Do you have a Doctor in this team of yours? Thats critical

"fresh water spring that very few know about....." - now I know about it as well

I don't plan to be around on that day ....
So there are other things to worry about.

Like surviving from one day to the next.

"I reckon when the balloon goes up,", I will be part of the dust particles...

Likely partaking in an orgy of criminal activities, as most people would. Really, the place would go tits up if people knew the end was near.

I have a paramedic, who knows how to fix cars and engines, I researched the spring, turns out when it rains in the binneland of Namibia, it takes seventy years for the water to flow through the dunes to the coastal springs, that gives me about 70 years of radiation free water....

I have a technician on the team that is an ace with solar technology and the likes thereof, Also four of the team members are qualified divers, a couple of housewives and their kids....

To the East, untouched, pristine desert....... will see approaching folk at least an hour before they get to us....

This old mining camp was built to accommodate about 150 souls back in the day, with qualified chefs and and awesome restaurant for the workers....

As I stated, it's been left to the elements and due to it being in a highly restricted place, off limits to Joe Soap!

Depends on the type of apocalypse...

Either way make sure you have lots of ammo ;-)

We have access to 14 000 rounds and numerous firearms, including hunting rifles.....

Yeah, I think you are pretty much sorted.

The only challenge is micro-politics, with all those alpha males who will be the boss, and what happens when the wives start cheating on the men, it can get ugly..

I've been rather distracted over the past few Armageddons / EOTWAWKIs and so have missed them entirely.

Your Prepper talk reminds me of a group of Germans in the last century who were tired of the endless wars in Europe ... Franco-Prussian, WW1, WW2 ... in the late 1940s they decided to abandon Europe and find a remote spot where they and their progeny would never again be troubled by war. After much research they identified the Safe Spot, sold up, and moved with their families in the mid-1950s to, er, northern South West Africa. As anyone over 18 knows, war soon came there as well...

I have a few weeks of tin food and water. My SHTF plan basically covers short term emergencies and load shedding. After that I'll see what's left of this place and do what everyone else does.

Thanks for the nice story but were they prepared?!

Their story is related in a book I read in the early 80s. I know the community fell apart as the SWAPO incursions increased and some drifted to the cities and back to Europe. Never found out exactly what happened to them.
