So when did using hazards instead of indicators become a thing?

I supose me almost hitting one of these hazard using cretins this morning got me wondering how this has come about? It certainly isn't part of the K53. Why is pulling off a road either left or right and the motoroist behind these wombles needing to guess suddenly acceptable? I have even watched a traffic cop slow down while one of these hazards used their hazards to crawl off the road at 12.7 km/h to pick up some people but the cop just goes around and does forkall.

Why did you almost hit them with their hazards on and what difference would it have made if they were indicating?

Not wanting to argue the proper use of hazards and indicators but if you almost hit someone who has their hazards on surely you would also almost hit them even if they were indicating? To me the reaction would be the same if someone is indicating to pull off to the side or if they put the hazards on.

Like the plonkers that nearly rear end you when you stop at a stop sign and then shake their fists angrily at you like it's somehow your fault.

You should keep a safe following difference then you won't be the hazard.

It obviously means there's something wrong and they are going to stop

When? Roughly around the time when stupid-idiots-who-can't-be-bothered-to-think.

So imagine if you will. Me driving in the left lane of a double lane road. Said cretin it in the right lane. Cretin puts on hazards and swings over cutting me off because he decides he suddenly needs to pick up 2 people on the side of the road. Is that enough of an explanation?

Swerving over to pick up people is "something wrong"?
Holy f##kballs all this time I had it all wrong hey?

It seem you are questioning the use of the hazard lights and not the action of the driver.

Hazard lights are not the problem, the driver is. The hazard lights are actually doing their job in this case.

I see this often and it's a sign of they can do anything ridiculous and are forgiven by the use of their hazards.

Maybe it is people that cannot tell right from left and think O.K hazard time, whatever is game!

I am going to start driving with a baseball bat or paint gun, and start shooting or hammer some indicators as they do not use it what it is suppose to be used for.

It has become general thing here in Cape Town for people to pause or just go through stop streets here in Cape Town. See it constantly in the CBD residential areas.

Jayzuz christ, what are you not getting?
Let me give a brief synopsis of my original post.
Over the last few years some cretins seem to think it is ok to use hazards as opposed to indicators like they are supposed to. Bought licences maybe?

Our shop bakkie was written off by a delivery lorry whose driver “didn’t realize” the bakkie would stop. The fact that there was another car already in the intersection seemed not to be relevant. He told the SAPS who came that my driver was irresponsible and driving dangerously. I was astonished to find that the cop believed it. One of the arguments put forward was that the hazards were “not on”

The insurance co disagreed and collected R180k from the lorry driver

Woah.. calm your tits before you blow an indicator bulb.

What difference does it make whether they were using indicators or hazards?. It's their actions that are the problem.

What difference would it have made if they used their indicators instead of their hazards? They still would have done what they wanted to and give zero fuchs.

Not sure if serious.
I think you'll find he was referring to the driver... the USER of the hazard lights
I think his point is that the hazards or indicators don't matter if someone is going to suddenly swerve into your lane.

Looking at this action would it have made a difference if he put on the indicator? It's unsafe driving with or without the indicator or hazard lights.

Yes that's much better.

Yeah, the pandemic of tossers driving poorly has consumed the land. They really need to self isolate and not drive anywhere until a cure is available.

The problem is people performing sudden stops in places they are not supposed to or allowed to. And it is usually to pick up someone. They are just copying taxis, as none of them have mentally passed their K53 licence, so they only follow the examples set.
