Which sport is better? My opinion: after watching my first rugby game ever I think rugby is quite boring. The rules need to be simplified more and they should get rid of the pile ups that slow the game down. If they do this rugby will probably win more hearts around the world. It appears that rugby is more about size than about skill and the fans aren't as passionate as soccer fans.

Dude, I personally prefer soccer 100X over to rubgy, but please, for the love of everything good and right in the world, don't speak about stuff you have no idea about. Size is important to be sure, but if you think it's just random jostling then you're blind. If you've never played as a forward, you'll never realise how difficult it is to do their jobs.

I watch both and i prefer soccer but that is mostly because i gamble on it :D.

In terms of boring and not boring rugby is by the far the more entertaining game, always something happening. Soccer you can go 45 minutes without a shot on goal. Soccer can be rather boring. In rugby the only time it is boring is when one team is dominating the score board. Rugby has nothing to do with size, ask james small :D. Obviously size matters but it is not the only quality needed to play rugby.

Dude go check some local rugby matches and then check some local soccer matches. Then come tell me who is more passionate, i can assure you soccer is not nearly as well supported in this country.

To play or watch?

To watch live or on TV?

Live: Rugby
TV: Depends who plays. Stormers/Tri Nations beats everything, toss up between currie cup and EPL.
Playing: I'm a smoker, so soccer's easier on the lungs.
Rules of rugby holds it back imo, every year with the rule changes the whole game changes. Thats why soccer has a much larger global footprint

You have to admit, soccer players are the biggest drama queens, the way they fake injuries! I think ballerinas put up less of a show even though their injuries are often more serious. :D

To play: Soccer (haven't ever really had the chance to play rugby)

To watch: Rugby, though I do enjoy watching national teams play soccer. Soccer for the most part is dominated by theatrics. I also feel that luck is a component in many soccer games as opposed to rubgy. Rugby is just more fun. I'm not sure how you can possibly describe it as boring in comparison to soccer. I mean, I love cricket but can understand why others might find it boring. For someone to find rugby boring I find bizarre.

I love watching sport in general and enjoy soccer, but given the choice I would far rather watch a game of rugby, cricket or golf.

I think it comes down to having a good understanding of the game, the rules and having a favourite team or player to actually enjoy it.

I would rather play soccer than rugby, but I would much rather watch rugby than soccer. But then again, I would rather play touch rugby than soccer as well. I am just not physical enough to play real rugby. I played wing and fullback on school for the 6th team, but I didn't get the ball that much. My best contribution was a tackle that saved a try.

I would rather watch football or cricket. Rugby is ok if I am with some friends/family who like it but I won't watch it on my own.

Rugby by a country mile.

Soccer is entertaining but far too often ends in a draw. 30% of the time matches are drawn... Guesstimate...

On the other hand Darren there is a unique energy around a pack of rugby forwards taking each other on. It's quite brutal and the game ebbs and flows with passages of intensively physical exchanges followed up with phases of high speed attacking play. When a rugby match ends in a draw it's usually a thrilling encounter none the less. The physical prowess of a 1st class rugby player is something to behold. These men are extraordinary specimens while your top flight soccer players are a bunch of egotistical over paid Adonises...

Would rather watch my rugby team on TV than my soccer team and love both, play soccer, stopped playing rugby, also had a trial opportunity for Bloemfontein Celtic :p

useless question, its all a matter of taste..
I personally love squash, i can play it till i puke, then go home and watch it on tv. Most ppl would rather watch paint dry....
Rugby and soccer each have their place and their own "appeals" to ppl... so jsut sit back and enjoy..

oh, and real fans call it football ;)

Soccer is a fraud to me. The amount of injury faking and simple immature lies that happen on the field is not even funny. Watching for 90 minutes without a goal? Not fun to watch.

I still see rugby as more of a team sport. There are moments of individual brilliance, but those 15 guys are putting there bodies on the line for 80 minutes. On the other hand Darren, football is usually about individual brilliance, "over-paid gods gift to man" players and theatrics. I do enjoy the odd international of footy, as its awesome watching guys play for their country. But all the premierships and club games just aren't my cup of tea. I loved rugby because guys played with passion, but now all these overseas clubs are paying top money for players, its going the same way as footy.

Rugby is a tiny tiny sport compared to football. Virtually every nation on earth has got football as their favourite sport. GO figure...

Also it depends who is playing. You can't compare local football to local rugby. Local rugby is at the top 3 whereas local football is somewhere near the bottom half in the world ranking.
Watch Spain or Barcelona playing and you'll understand why they call football the most beautiful game of them all.
Some teams tend to just play to avoid defeat and that's when football can be very boring.

On the question of overpayed players...actually those are household names that bring the bulk of revenue into the game...***a, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi, Backham, Zidane, Maradona, Pele, etc. all deserve(d) the dough they got paid.
