I've just gotten off the phone with a telkom representative who just tried to sell me on Telkom's new VOIP software 'softphone'. I didn't realize telkom were trying their hand at VOIP software (maybe I havn't been reading the forums enough), but this just sounds like a joke to me. I generally do my best to stay as far away from anything telkom related as I can.

When I told them that I was quite happy with the VOIP software that I already have they tried to assure me that 'we are aware of Skype and SoftPhone is much better!'.

Is it just me or does this sound like a desperate attempt to lock people into telkom now that the second national operator is on the way?

Thanks for the offer telkom, but I'll pass on your cheap lock-in software. At least it was worth a few laughs.

Ya, Telkom has had a softphone for a little while now. It isn't too bad actually. But it is more similar to GTalk than to Skype.

Speaking of, still no SkypeIN for South Africa. I am losing patience with Skype
