Hi all,
Just a quick query to find out if such a thing exists or can be implemented.
I am looking for a solution that would enable a user to either click a link or click a checkbox that would then automatically download and install specific software or update to his/her PC. Like for instance Java, or readers like PDF/striata, codecs and license free alternate media players (quicktime?) or various other bits of approved small updates or packages they can install at their leasure if required one day.
So rather than pushing out software automatically via Group Policy or SMS there are certain packages I would like to enable the users to install themselves at their leasure that would be relatively harmless but wastes my time nonetheless doing manually but is occasionally or sometimes more often than not necessary.
Furthermore (and the catch is) it must be possible to use without admin rights and of course security is a concern so I can't create scripts that would contain password info in them. Which is why it needs to be an internal solution, they can't just download from the net and install themselves.
I don't think this is possible via Group Policy, but if so is there any other method?
If not I wonder if something like a bunch of tested MSI installers with autohotkey exe scripts to "runas" them linked via a intranet webpage would do the trick? But this would take me a while to do.
EDIT: Actually no not autohotkey as there is a risk there too no? something else perhaps?
