Software Question

Hi guys,

I'm wondering, I need a program, preferably freeware but if not, okay - that basically tells me if a PC is on off or or restarts or whatever.

So, if there are 20 pc's in the office, I can check which ones are on or off.
That's all I need to pretty much know.

I would think, there should be a program that does this, by pinging it (on a network) would provide 1 way of checking it's status.

But ya... does anyone know of a program like this?!?

you could just install remote administration software on each machine including yours and that would allow you to see each pc from your pc. obviously then if it can't connect then you'll know that that pc is off.
also a great spying tool

I have VNC on every pc but I don't wanna sit and try and connect to each to see if its on.

I'm thinking of like this;

I open the program and it shows a list (something like this)

SERVER 1 - offline
SERVER 2 - online
RECEPTION - offline
BOSS - online
etc
etc
etc

just ping the pc ip address "time out means" means its off

Yes, thought of that... but a graphical user interface would be nice.
Something to quickly look at and then close and something that is always running.

Theres a program called netscan that pings an ip range and shows you wat ips it gets a response from...

Don't know if it will work for you, but I use it to monitor my modem, router and other PCs on the network. Whenever it finds a PC offline, it marks it as red on the diagram (as well as in the tray icon).

Try Hamachi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en)

You can add all the PC's to a network in it, then disable all unsecure ports (so browsing and stuff is disabled). Nice quick way to see what pcs are on
