Hi,

I am looking for a good (hopefully free) piece of software that can read characters in a scanned pdf document and can convert it to a Word format. I tried a couple free OCR programs but they don't convert the font or underlined sections and spacing is left out.

Thanks,
Dat

Abbyy Finereader is the best but not free.

I will check it out for interest's sake. I have copied the forms into word format but for bigger forms a program that does character recognition will be a "nice to have".

For people who are looking for the same - PDF-XCchange doesn't do the character recognition bit for you. What it does is allow you type onto the form and move it around to fit into the document you're trying to complete. There are also some other editing tools in there that are very useful. But it does not convert printed/scanned PDFs to text.
