Hi all,

Does anyone know of any software that allows us to put in origination address, delivery address, weight of parcel etc and tell us the most cost effective transport to use? Obviously we would have to input all logistics companies tariffs etc. Does such an application exist in SA?

We send about 500 parcels a day and its growing and its becoming increasingly harder to know which is the best provider to choose...

Can't you approach a company like (example) Dawn Wing and discuss discounts on ONLY using them for your deliveries...

I mean, Speed Courier Services have always been good but that's just 'now and again' package sending.

Negotiate!

We do this already, thing is depending on the weights there are different price breaks between the diff carriers. There are also differences depending on where it's going as they all have dc's in different areas. Were also forced to go and manually get quotes for each area as not all addresses fail nearly into the main delivery centers so it's not very apparent what class the deliver falls under. This also gets more complex when we have to consider bulk shipments using bulk carriers. We've tried long enough to bargain with our carriers unfortunately it's time to get proactive and enforce a change.

Sounds like you might want to invest in developing an application like that. It should save you a lot of work/money in the long run, and seeing as there isn't anything (not to my knowledge), that you can buy off the shelf to help with it, might be worthwhile (as long as you own the source code as well after)

I think these guys are involved with writing software for the courier/transport industry, maybe give the a shout and see if they have anything or would be willing to customise something for you.

They are a good start as they wrote the software most local couriers use, CourierGuy etc

awesome, thanks guys! Ive also found another company which is our supplier which has developed this software for their own use. we are in talks with them on purchasing what they have developed.
