Forget halfies. I'm sure we can pool a number of people to do this. I'm also interested in prices.

lsheed_cn. Its quite inspiring to see your capetown solar documenting website.

If i may ask, when and where did you purchase your panels from. That would be a HUGE help for me. Regards Craig3d

My first panels were 235W Tenesol. They good but the cost was horrific and they now gone bust :(
They give slightly more power then the Jinko's when overcast, but not much.
Solaire is also a local company but have not used them yet.
Been using Jinko panels for my last 12 x 235W panels and to date they working very well.
They Chinees, but now have a local factory in Epping.

Basically the Chinees have been undercutting and flooding the PV market for some years now, to such an extend, that most American and EU factories have gone belly up.
Now the Chinees is buying up these plants and giving us lower cost panels!

No problem to import yourself, but who is going to carry the warrenty for you?
What you going to do if there is any issues or problems?
If you buy bulk from the normal importers they should give you good discount.

That is some awesome info wetkit. Thank you very much.

Just read this now:
JinkoSolar’s South African Production Facility is in line with Industry Standards in OST Energy Independent Technical Review

SHANGHAI, December 8th, 2014-- JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. ("JinkoSolar" or the "Company") (NYSE: JKS), a global leader in the solar PV industry, today announced that its South African production facility is in line with industry standards in an independent technical review conducted by OST Energy.

Thats good news for us i think. Now to see if i can buy from them directly.... :)

This is a SA company in Cape Town that make there own.
"PTiP, a technology company co-owned by UJ and the IDC, shows that solar photovoltaic power can now be cheaper than the grid. Several commercial case studies with corporates demonstrate that its technology has reached grid power parity. PTiP solar modules contain more than 80% local materials. The company is in the process of gaining the highest possible global quality certification for the modules it manufactures in Stellenbosch, for use on and off Escom's electricity grid."www.ptip.co.za

Hey akescpt . I must say. I am very surprised at how far i have been able to come on a R13k Budget.
I was able to purchase a 5kva UPS with solar charge controller built in, as well as a "small' bank of 4 x 65AH Deep Cycle Batteries along with LED lighting throughout the house.

Yes, The Current storage wont keep huge appliances running for days, but its a pretty good start for someone like me who is on a budget. I have reduced my lighting in my house to less than 100w all told.

Hey Sokum. I saw that. Its very exciting, and i cant wait for them to start production of those Cigs.

The truth is, i also cant actually wait for them to start, as it may still be months and years away from licencing and manufacture. But its very positive :)

You can count me in too, lets get a solar black market up and running :)

Would be nice to find out what chinese companies require the smallest minimum orders. Most seem to say 200 units. It may be i bit much. I will continue digging.

That's about my budget. The lights are already LED. Where did you buy your equipment?

We bought the batteries from Umbani-solar. I dont think youll get a better price on batteries. You may get better quality, but we could not find better value for money.
On the UPS/Inverter, My brother bought them for him and myself, so will get some details for you.
