Greetings,

I would like to get some advice in regard to planning a semi off grid system with around the following specs:

  • 5 or 8 kva hybrid inverter
  • 10 or 15 kw lithium batteries
  • 8 x 450 to 600 panels
I currently use around 25-30 kwh a day and already have a gas stove, considering a gas geyser also.

I have noticed that there are considerable differences in prices of inverter and would like some recommendations on quality yet cost effective alternatives.

Recommendations regarding suppliers and installers in KZN would also be appreciated.

Thanks

You might glean some good info reading through a couple of the installs described here.

First of all, what are you aiming at. What do expect from the system, solar install.

Hi,

My aim is to drastically reduce my reliance on Eskom due to the increasing instances of load shedding and outages in our area. Also I would like to reduce my current spend on electricity.

Inverter: SunSynk/Deye or Luxpower
Battery: Pylontech/Dyness/FreedomWon/Volta
Panels: Any tier-1 panels (Jinko/Canadian/JA/Longi/Trina)

5kW inverter should be fine. Get something with after sales service.
With a 5kW inverter your panel sizes need to be smaller. Less than 500W. Approximately 11.**A
Contact @DuracellBunny on this forum. He is from KZN
Let him have a look at what is required.

Your lights inside the house should be energy efficient. (Example 6W LED vs 60W)
Energy appliances. They all contribute to total energy cost.
Your biggest energy hog is geyser. I have mine on timer.

But in general, you don't use much energy for the month.

Thanks so much for the feedback,, there seems to be a lot of fly by night companies out there so due diligence is required.

Best to work on recommendations or approach a Sunsynk or Herholdts approved installer:
