SolarAssistant - Anyone using it?

Been up since 11pm yesterday so forgive me.

So to see if I understand:-
Sunsynk inverters now come with their own logger (WiFi)' and service but it's not realtime. Apparently can integrate with HA.

If you want a realtime data feed you need solar assistant ? But 900 for software and then about 600 for cables (1 for inverter and another to battery) . I have a Hubble but no RIOT

My inverter is going to be about 25m from my home assistant box or the closest network point (I could run one I guess). But I have rock solid WiFi so hence it could be an option. I have a few raspberry Pis 3Bs and I can connect a WiFi dongle to it .

But perhaps Sunsynk software could be good enough? If I can save moolah then that would be great.

Would appreciate thoughts please.
If yours comes with the SunSynk dongle an option could be to replace (or swop) it with the solarman one. Solarman integrates with HA over wi-fi and updates once a minute. Depending on your use case this might be all you need?

You can use the solarman. But its not realtime

If you want realtime get solar assistant. It plugs into the sunsynk via network port.

It just works

Thanks Chaps!

Ok so it looks like I will need to bite the solar assistant bullet. Of course it will work but it's gonna be a bit complex to setup and another device to manage. But considering for my install I plan to have everything on essential, real time data is going to be required to ensure high draw appliances can be turned off (or not turned on) if there isn't capacity. I have this idea in my head - now I need to see if I can make it work

As mines comes with the SunSynk dongle , I will try that first while I plan the next steps and remember where I left all my Pis (there should be at least 3 or 4 floating around)

Solar assistant itself is plug and play. Create account, plut it in and off you go.

Hello all,

For those using Solar Assistant connected to Sunsynk:- Do you have a MQTT sensor to tell you if there is Grid Power available? I can't seem to see a sensor for it. The only one I think I could use is the Grid Frequency and if it drops to 0 then I lost Grid.

There is no sensor unfortunately... I track frequency then based on this I assume there is or isn't grid

That's really disappointing. I wonder if I've can request the SA guys to add that? The Solarman integration has a "grid connected status" sensor so it should be possible.

Already sent them a request - would help if more request the same.

Also asked them to provide two mqtt sensors for daily grid usage and PV generated value. They have it in their dashboard already , so can't be that difficult for them to expose via mqtt

Will request as well

What exactly is this? Setting inverter settings via HA? And did you have to change anything?

I see there is an update available for my Pi. Hoping the upgrade is seamless - eek!
SolarAssistant updates are quite seamless and seldom break anything - so you should be good to go

yes will allow you to change the values in HomeAssistant and then those are applied to the inverter. This is on version 2022-08-25 (you might need to be on the Beta channel to get this)

I have been using solar assistant for 3yrs or so without any issues

The last 2 weeks i have been having these almost daily disconnections. Resetting the pi3 fixes it, then next day or so it disconnects

I have tried wifi and wired to pi. Same result. Also tried different usb slots on the pi for comms to inverter

Any ideas?

I had similar problems with ICC in the past, was the DB on the storage failing and was almost full
mabey try a new SD card?
Running Solar assistant now for 3-4 years on a industrial SD card that is a lot bigger than my old 1 , and no problems sofar

I was thinking its either the pi, R800 for a new one or the sd card, R100

Let me try the cheaper option.

Thx

So I have had the same issue.

Replaced my PI last week, Now it looks like a cable is a problem. I am starting to think its Solar Assistant now that more people having the same issue.

This is the issue I am having with the Cable, Replaced the cable and still same issue. Looking to rolling back software tonight to see if it solved the issue.
