Solid state drives are still pricey

Anyone tried SATA 3 yet? I have two SATA3 drives in Raid 0 and not much of a difference at all... :( Thought I would at least see some change and Windows Performance Index = 5.9 (same as SATA2)

You won't see any difference because cannot make use of the bandwidth. You would need something like raid 0 ssd's while working on a huge file to take advantage of it. sata 3 is just basically read and write so if you are working in big files then you can utilize usb 3. Transfer obviously will be faster as well but general windows, gaming etc won't change.

Usb 3 won't change a thing in windows, get ssd if you want speed bos :D.

Thansfer a 10gb file between the 2, the difference should be huge surely?

She left me no choice dude. In my defence, I did give her the benefit of the doubt by chaining her to the kitchen sink, on the morning of day three she burned the toast, and that was it.
Even the sex with my SSD is better, if you can get past your prejudice regarding the burning and bleeding, that is.

Yes they're expensive, yes they're small...bla bla bla... If you're the type of person that spends about 8 hours a day in front of a PC (and especially if you carry around a laptop that you use for work), stop trying to justify it, trust the people here who've taken the plunge, you'll never regret it.

It's true though, I used to be quite anal about Windows maintenance etc. Always installing registry cleaners, junk file removal tools, HDD defragment tools that arranged frequently used data on the outside of your platters etc. etc. All that just to try and keep my Windows from slowing down to a crawl within a few months since it takes me about 3 days to get all my tools and stuff for work set up and it's a MASSIVE pain in the ass.

Ever since my SSD upgrade I just don't give a crap anymore. Windows keeps performing like a dream even though I treat the poor thing like a hooker's handbag.

At first you might even feel like your SSD upgrade was a bit of a waste (really, just after I got my drive I sat there wondering "OK, it's cool, but is that really it?!?"), it's only a few days or months later that you start realizing how much time you save by not having to wait for those little things in an OS you've always taken for granted are resource/time hogs.

A good example is for instance adding and removing Windows features, for some reason a normal HDD takes what feels like ages just to list the features, nevermind adding and removing. On an SSD it's almost instantaneous. I know, it's not something you do often, but I remember it used to be a real downer once I got up to speed, switching between apps, running stored procs. on SQL etc. and then suddenly I had to add/remove some IIS component or whatever.

lol I used to the same! continually optimizing windows, but I havn't had to do it once since getting my SSD. The only maintenance job I do now is move crap from the SSD to my other drives to free up space :)

Not too often though as I have the 160gb intel

And oh so nice not having to spend hours defragging! hahahaha
 
60 GB SSD for R1900??? :eek:

No, thanks... I'd rather get 4 terabytes for that price.
 
It will be a long time before I can justify those prices. I will live with HDD a wee while yet.
 
As soon as i can get 128 gigs for R1000 or less i'll jump on the bandwagon.
 
I wanna take the plunge into SSD, but will wait till next year. Just not sure which one to get, Intel X-25M, OCZ Vertex 2, or G.skill phoenix pro??

Don't know the others,but the G.Skill is bloody fast and cheap !! eeek. My boet has got the 60 gb G.SKILL I mentioned in my last post and it beats my old mushkin by far. He too was a non believer in SSD and all I can say from his quotes once he upgraded was 'my PC is 10x faster' :)
