Some advice needed for my own situation

So I have a small business with 2 landlines and an analog pabx - endless hassles from the pabx and telkom's billing.

We finally got a 10mb fiber line so I am keen to switch to voip and turf telkom once and for all.

My question - Option 1) Hosted pabx and 2 cordless voip phones and port both lines
Option 2) Yeastar S20 PABX box - Cordless voip phones x 2 and port my lines to something like VOX or freshphone.

The main question I have is - are these physical PABX boxes reliable? The last thing I want is equipment that is even more buggy than my current pabx.

Also - does the yeastar box do call waiting, etc?

It will certainly be cheaper than Telkom for sure though. Maybe some other experienced member can provide input.

Port your numbers right away no matter what solution you go for or what provider you use, just go digital immediately. The hardware option yeastar can do everything you want, IVR, call waiting, call recording etc etc. Very reliable as well.

However with 2 extensions there is no way you can justify buying hardware as for example R60 an extension per month you have to go 2 years before you get the cost of an S20 back. Everybody else is going to post here, always use cloud, but thats not always true, for example if you had 20 extensions just office based usage.

For your 2 extensions buy some VoIP phones and get ported right away. Dont judge them by their web site and get a quote from these guys https://www.abacustelecomm.co.za/

So, an update on this - Cloud based voip providers listed in the above thread all quoted me at around R300 per month excluding calls ( I would have to load airtime or get billed post-paid)
Doing the math, an S20 pabx unit costs around 3k online so it pays itself off in 10 months or so.

So I've ordered an S20 now I want to port my numbers to a provider - will freshphone allow me to port 2 numbers?

I have 2 in lines (ported from Telkom) and 3 extensions
I'm with HaveX and use a Yealink SIP-T53W as the reception phone & pabx.
Not as full featured as the S20, but good enuf for me.

AFAIK, freshpone does allow more than one number on an account and porting.
Each line has a separate pre-paid top up.
Freshphone top-up is simple via portal.

HaveX top up is a "pool" for the lines.
HaveX top up is via eft.

Hey everyone;

Just thought I'd post an update on my VOIP journey. I hope someone in a similar position can benefit from my experiences.

So after alot of research I decided to get a 10mbps fibre line and use an onsite pbx -

Equipment bought - Yeastar S20; 3 Yealink Wireless handsets (W52p, W53) and the wireless base.
I set up the PBX and handsets using youtube tutorials and reading the 'net for the most part.

I chose Abacus Telecom as my voip provider as they offer a decent call fee, no monthly line rental fees and post paid billing.

We setup 3 SIP trunks and I used them to test all the PBX features I wanted such as call queueing, call waiting, voicemail and to set up how calls were routed. When I was happy with how calls would route from outside and between handsets I put in a porting request for my 3 lines.
Once the port was done ABACUS converted the test SIP trunks into my ported lines so no need to change any settings.

And that was it - painless!

And my phone bill went from nearly 2k with 3 phone line rentals and adsl service to about 300 bucks excluding the fibre line rental.

300 bucks for all our calls for the month! Calls are clear, PBX works like a dream and we only had one instance where I had to reset the yealink base station as calls were not being routed to the handsets.

Now the hardest thing has been to get Telkom to cancel all other services I have with them - Still struggling!! I will be so happy when I no longer have to deal with that scummy company.
