Some apps contain Trojans

Also used it for years - absolutely no issues and very useful

Possibly it shows up on certain software as a trojan. I have other PC programs that some antivirus software has the same issue with - and they are not trojans. They are designed to send certain data across the internet.

I see in the comments that there are complaints that it uses location - and their fear is that it is sending other information other than Wifi analytics.
Loved this app... BUT as it now requires location to be activated in order to use it (which confirms that it is opening my phone to more than just WiFi analytics) I have no other option but to remove it from my phone. Really sorry, as it was a super app.
Deeply troubled by googles motivations for needing location access for wifi scanning and some Bluetooth functions.(there is no good reason for this). I used this app for years after v6 just fine without location on. Now it's needed suddenly. What is Google really doing here? Every update from google seems to remove user choice and some functionality/privacy. Also now can't turn off ok Google at home screen after latest update. Troubling.
Attention devs. I had 7.0. S8+. This app NEVER asked for location permissions period. EVER. I'm now on 8.0, it didn't ask. Then April 07 update comes... Bam, location mandatory to use!! Supposedly since android 6!?!?! It's NEVER ASKED EVER. Please remove the location requirement as its using Wi-Fi to scan, NOT GPS. Correct this ASAP!!!

There is the reason it is being picked up as a Trojan most likely. Not sure what other information Google might be wanting from you - but it has people upset.

You will probably find that they are tinkering with a survey option for the tool... would be a good idea to include location data then

Yes I never said it wasn't a good thing - but people freak out when it comes to their "privacy". I know so many people who think they have no digital footprint :)

From the reddit post

"At the time I was running Android 7.1. It wasn't a virus to say, it was more like a trojan that started to control my phone remotely. I disconnected from the Internet and it stopped"

"Because the app was doing it's own thing my changing it's own parameters inside the app. And, it was one of only apps installed on my phone"

It would be helpful if Google had a comment section for each sensor or or information access request by an application so that you had some idea why they required that particular information for their application to operate

Yeah seems like a bit of a far stretch to point the finger at the wireless analyzer app. Best solution for unknown APKs is to use a rooted VM or sandbox to test.

Who only has one app on their phone? What about the ones shipped with the device - they are apps too. And you can pick up all sorts of stuff depending on what websites you go to. I have also known antivirus programs to cause issues. Not saying he isn't right - just saying it doesn't sound right.

Sure, every custom Android frontend has bloat, but most of it is not ad supported. 90% of the dodgy apps out there are developed to make money, and as much of it as possible as quickly as possible. The easiest way to do that is to gather information and/or get impressions on served advertisements. The unregulated ad services are often confused as "taking over my device" or "hacking my phone". I would include cryptocurrency mining or processor jacking in there, but since the values have plummeted they are not being pushed as much anymore.

Same here. Its very useful.

The other day, while I was reading, I freaked out when my phone took a screenshot by itself. Bloody kid downloaded a schitload of games onto my phone so one of them must have been the culprit.

I immediately reset the phone to factory settings

You see... now THAT sounds like a RAT. Hopefully it isn't sitting in the OS partition. Is your device rooted?

ALL Apps are Trojans, especially those supported by Google until proved otherwise. I detest ANY app that wants access to sensors etc that are not directly related to the supposed functionality the app is going to give you. The moment I detect something I don't like, that apps is immediately binned. BUT having said that, most mobile devices are totally compromised from the day you buy them because of all the rubbish installed on it even before you start loading what you want. So anyone who claims they don't have a digital profile on the Internet is fooling themselves. The ONLY way you will never have one is to never ever connect to the Internet or use a mobile comms service.

Yes! My grandson likes to play a game called Pet Rescue. He has an old tablet on which his parents have loaded some of these games, with no Internet access, or any other stuff on it. His tablet packed up ,so I loaded the game onto my tablet. Immediately, I found all sorts of things active. The camera, the microphone and the speakers, all of which I have set to be OFF, or so I thought. Even with the tablet set "total silence" that game was still able to access the speakers, camera and microphone. And the game has the cheek to tell you when you cut internet access! The only way to get rid of it was to do a full factory reset of my tablet when the little terror went home again.

That's scary!
