Some cellular operators slow to process migrating subscribers

Cancelled my port eventually - the notion of giving such incompetent staff the responsibility of managing my account was less appealing than staying put with my current provider.

Better the devil you know and all that . . .

I'm hoping that my port from CellC to Vodacom will be completed today, CellC appears to have been cooperative as far as I can see: got my porting pin sms [3 different ones in short succession], and at about 03:15 on Sunday morning I got another sms from Vodacom to say that CellC had approved the port to Vodacom...

Having said that, the people at the Vodashop I visited, on Saturday, were battling with the MNP system, which kept on spitting out "system unavailable" messages, whenever they [2 people] tried to follow the porting steps. Now I don't know if it was Vodacom's system [dealerweb.vodacom.co.za] that was the problem, or if the central mobile number portability system was the problem, or maybe a Digicrap or ADSL link inbetween causing problems...

One of the people at the Vodashop proudly stated that MTN is getting fined R1000 per customer per day for holding onto numbers [not letting go of them].

Not much else to report other than I hope my 084-kiddies will be up and running with my R1.95 Pick 'n Pay Vodacom starter pack sim card sometime today - I'm not overly optimistic and I expect the usual 24 hour activation delay on the new sim card...

Today is the 16th day since I applied for a port from Vodacom to Virgin Mobile..
My Vodacom simcard has been disabled since the 17th, my Virgin Mobile simcard has been disabled since the 22nd!!! I have been without my number for 10 days!!

I am totally and absolutely disgusted with VM, after five calls to the "pretend to sort me out" centre and three posts on hellopeter.com the problem has still not been resolved.

Their latest excuse is that they are going to investigate the coverage with Cell-C.. - which has nothing to do with it at all... how the heck would I have requested a port in the first place if I didn't have coverage? Never mind that the sim worked fine for months before I requested the port..

I just don't know who to complain to anymore... :(

Why is MTN never available for comment? Heck even the smallest guy, Virgin, had something to say.

Will wait a bit before I port as those technical glitches CellC is talking about scare me a bit, don't want to be out of touch. Thanks for feedback ic about porting, will be good to hear when you are finally up and running again on that number.

They are spot on with that article - So far, porting from CellC to MTN and its taken 1 week so far - They promise today it will be done.

They don't call me back, they don't reply to my email, and I'm getting gatvol with Vodashop 4ways...

For attention Ernest [who wasn't there today] or Mechelle that was there and never called me back after several messages left for her...kindly complete the porting over of my number from CellC pre-paid to Vodacom pre-paid, thank you!
