Financial gurus,

if you happened to find yourself cancelling a planned purchase or overseas trip and so you have found yourself with a nice cash lump lying around in a normal cheque account, what would you do to make that work for you? For arguement sake, let's round it off to 100 K.
ie: best option for highest rate of return over short period of time?

Highest return over a short amount of time? Keep it in cash in a high interest rate account. Depending on your risk level you could go all the way to buying bitcoin or betting on red.

There isn't enough information in your post to give a concise answer.

What do you want to do with the money in the end? And how far in the future is the "end"?

R100k?

Pay of debt.
Shove it in a TymeBank GoalSave (9-10% interest)
Dump it all into STXNDQ.

Sorry, forgot to add, this guy is old, bond free, etc.. it's just sitting there in his account. I suggested investing, but I don't know enough myself.

Did read up on this, but have also seen some negative reports. So, no thanks. Sounds too risky.

really wants to swim with the sharks?

bitcoin, high returns, and VERY high risk,
cyber equivalent of putting it all on Black and "let it ride"

How old is he? 60? 70?
