Thing that we have to try and ensure is that ICASA does in fact put a price cap and service level agreement on ADSL, so that with the introduction of the SNO, they will be forced to compete. If nothing is done by ICASA and Telkom have there way with the SA Users, SNO will prolly offer the service at slightly better prices, which doesn't help us much.
I think we should criticize Telkom, DoC and ICASA. Make them all feel a bit guilty.
As far as critisizing DOC and ICASA etc I think the key here is to remain focused on the actual complaint in these hearings as opposed to getting too many facts and fallacies in the way of good old fashion "kick em in the nuts" facts.
As another in the forum says "My 2c worth". Use it dont use it..
I can't seem to access this. Someone please upload to somewhere.
Also please upload Antowan's transcript.
Pity I didn't know about a lot of this .. since I don't use ADSL I ain't really following any of this. I do have my opinion on the matter though and the fact that I refuse to get ADSL because I don't believe it's real value for money for me in the end is a big factor.
Also .. now after reading JediHobbes' doc .. didn't anyone mention that you have to pay for the ADSL modem that you get from Telkom? The fact that overseas they get the modem for free is also a big issue I feel. The 3 gig cap of course has to go .. and even before Telkom started their ADSL service, I was advocating that 3 gig is not enough.
Someone should've also brough up the issue that you could d/l more in a month using ISDN than you could using ADSL's 3 gig cap.
If Telkom dropped their prices they would get more subscribers for ADSL so they would either end up making the same profit as they do now or more depending on how many new subcribers they got.
I got my first internet connection at home at the beginning of this month (iBurst) but if ADSL had been cheaper I probably would've got it a year or two ago...
Their home ADSL 192k package costs about R600 all inclusive. If that came down to R300 or R350 all inclusive they would be guarenteed a hell of a lot more subscribers and possibly even bigger profits than they're making at the moment.
Seems like common sense to me...
A big thank you and best of luck to all the guys giving presentations, give 'em horns!
