Psu/mobo issue

I have two systems a P965 ds3 with Pent D830 and 400w Aopen psu and bla bla bla. I also have a n680sli dq6 with a Q6600 and an gigabyte odin 800w psu.

Both psu's can run the 965 sys easily without problems, on the 680sli the 400w powers everything up and works great, but i want to put my two 8800gts back in but the 800w will not power it up, when i try it just pulses and gets no where.

I've tried removing everything that isn't needed to boot but no difference.

What would you suggest?????

Check what the current rating on each rail is. Check the voltages on each rail under load. This will give you a better idea of whether or not the power supply is coping. If it's not coping, then 10 to 1 the supply's dying.

Or since the 400w runs it all well, use that :P

The odin come with software monitors and when using on other 965 with a 8800gts, the q6600 4gb cl4 ram many drives etc, the max pull on any rail (4) was low, well down on the meter. now i'm just trying to get it going with 512mb ram, no hdds, 6800gt and still nothing. btw its only a week old.

400w won't even think of running sli'ed 8800gts's

So you've recently tried the odin with a much more intensive setup and it worked great? Though the odin only bombed running the SLi setup.

When you say it pulses, does it start up, then stop, then start up, then stop etc?

I'm assuming you've tried different RAM in the SLi motherboard?

What are the current ratings on each of the power supplys' rails?

Its as if the 680sli and the odin don't like each other. i'm trying just a single 6800gt at the moment with every combo of ram i have. When i say pulses, the psu lights up, all fans spin, the light on the 6800gt goes on but then everything dips really quickly in 0.5sec intervals and you can here the fans slowing and the speeding and slowing and.....
The 400w ratings are:3.3v-22A, 5v-21A, 12V1-10A, 12V2-15A
The odin's is 3.3V-30A, 5V-28A, 12v1-18A, 12v2-18A, 12v3-25A,12v4-25A.
I've tried moving the gfx to every rail as well.

Hmmm... Does the 400W run the 680sli with the 6800GT?
Does the Odin run the 680sli with no graphics card? Sounds like something shorting

The 400w runs both of those, even 880gts.
The Odin without gfx does the same pulsing thing but know turns itself off after 3 secs

Ok, more confusion!!! I've now taken q6600 out put in the d830 and the Odin runs the lot. Before you point fingers at the q6600, it is a 95w cpu compared to the d830's 110w, the q6600 was happily run by the 400w in the sli mobo and it is run buy both psu's in the p965 ds3 mobo. What this mean???

Which outta the sli mobo, the q6600 or the odin do you think has the problem?
