I have the following media player.
X96 MINI
it should allow for 2160p but in the whitelist on Kodi it only allows for 1280x720

It seems this is a problem with many.
I am trying to play a file that's higher and is 2160p but it wont allow anything higher.

I would appreciate any advice or help.
Would live to see the full quality of the show.
My TV is an LG SUHD
Connected via HDMI but cant seem to get any higher res

The setting in the actual home screen if the device are set to allow UDH
Perhaps there is a better player ? One that also plays network stuff.
I tried Plex but it only allows me to play network stuff or online 20191208_213219.jpeg20191208_213234.jpeg20191208_213853.jpeg20191208_214718.jpeg20191208_214727.jpeg20191208_214900.jpeg20191208_214919.jpeg20191208_214946.jpeg

Your S905X chipset device will unfortunately play everything in 720p resolution.
The S905W chipset was also discontinued a while ago.
The Display settings are only cosmetic and most settings won't do a thing, it's a problem on most cheap S905W/S905x devices that don't get any firmware updates.
The CPU temperature is also very high and will cause additional throttling of the CPU speed and freezing.
There is probably only a metal plate and no heatsink at all, common with cheap devices.
If you want full Kodi auto frame-rate, HD Audio support and play 4K 10-bit HDR you will have to buy a better media player.
Look at something like the Ugoos AM6 Pro or Odroid N2 that can easily dual-boot Android and CoreELEC and also supports Android system-wide frame-rate switching for any app. They also support Magisk to make your device Google Certified.
If you have better hardware, also make sure you use a >=16Gbps high speed HDMI 2.0 cable to play >4K@30hz videos.

Thanks so much for the valuable information, do you have any particular decent brand name or device you could advise? Oh never mind I see thats what you did recommend, I thought that was the chipset or something :)

What about the Ematic?

I am not happy to order from them online as they have such terrible reviews.....oh well here we go

So I see it doesnt have an Ethernet port which is really stupid as 4k will never stream over the network over wifi properly. Any suggestions which adapter to purchase?

Would this be the best option?
I specifically want to stream over the LAN from my media centre

Don't you need DisplayPort or HDMI 1.3 to go above 1080p? (not sure)

Is there an alternative 4k player that would play off a USB stick that is true 4k so I can eliminate the Kodi interface or the TV?
I am so fking angry this is not working
Why does everything tech have to be such a bloody headache
