Yes but remember on Kodi it doesnt know what file I will be playing, the settings dont allow for anything higher that 1920x1080p
I am trying another file now to see but it wont make a difference on the box, will try play direct on tv

So I loaded the new Lion King and it plays on TV perfectly, also on the box, both look incredible but still dont know why it says only 1920x1080p
Have you tried a better hdmi cable yet?

The S922x devices running CoreELEC Linux Kodi can actually also run the UI in full 4K resolution if you want that but they are a bit more pricey.
Most Android media players only run the UI and apps in 1080p resolution with video playback only happening in 4K resolution since it's done by the VPU chip on the device. The GPU which displays the UI is too weak for 4K.
Only the new chipsets to be released next year by Amlogic and Rockchip will have the power to run the whole Android UI in 4K resolution. The only devices that run their UI in 4K at the moment are the old and new Nvidia Shield and Apple TV 4K.

Devices that also support frame-rate switching will then switch video playback to 4K resolution while the UI remains in 1080p. Eg. in Kodi the video plays in 4K but if you press 'o' or move your airmouse and bring up the Kodi menus while a video is playing, those menus will actually be in 1080p resolution.
You can connect a USB keyboard and press 'o' and 'ctrl + shift + o' to see additional video playback info that might be useful.

Your Kodi whitelist definitely looks wrong since it doesn't show any 4K resolutions.
Try a different HDMI port on your tv and also use an HDMI 2.0 cable.
If you can, enable debug logging in Kodi's Settings, exit and re-open the app and upload the Kodi log.
It should show what's wrong on your end and what your device sees as supported by your tv and other equipment.
You can also post your Android version info, so other users can check that they use the same firmware and rule out a software issue.

You can also look at an Intel Mini PC running Windows 10 with 4K@60hz output, there are loads of them on Gearbest and then set Kodi to auto-start on boot and then use an airmouse. You can also install an Android emulator if needed and add a shortcut for it inside Kodi. It requires a little bit of setup compared to a standalone Android device but you have a lot more freedom to do things which is either blocked or not possible on Android.

Guys, dont confuse the Kodi interface (GUI) output with what it can play. Kodi as far as I know Kodi does not do 4K on the interface (something about scaling). There are a few builds out there specifically for 4K (I tried one years ago before it died). My Kodi runs 4K video (albeit on an nVidia Shield) but is 1080p in the GUI. Currently I use the Blue Magic Build

TLDR
GUI Res <> Vid Output Res

Install the Kodi remote on your phone, connect it, play the 4K file, press info on the remote and check the resolution.

Try the Kodi log file uploader addon.
It's in the Kodi repo, programs section.
It will ask you to enable unknown sources to install addons.
Remember to also enable System - Logging - debug logging and exit Kodi and re-open it before using the addon.

Tried using a file hosting app like Mega and uploading the file on the Mi Box itself?
You can also copy the content of the file and open a web browser like Chrome(sideload it) and paste it into pastebin.com
Firefox send also works for things like this to upload small files - https://send.firefox.com/
Google Certified devices like the Mi Box restricts writing to external storage if it's not done by an app into it's own folder, so trying to copy the file won't work.

@marine1 Having read this Post on the Kodi forums, seems your box will let your TV do the upscaling to 4K. So I presume any 4K files will default to 4K on your display, anything lower such as 1080p will let your display upscale.

Edit:
I just installed the Xenon build from DiggzRepo and thought let me check my Display settings...

Display is at 2160p and 59.94hz (obviously it's also listed in my white list too). As I mentioned before, I have an nVidia Shield on a Hisense 55" 4K TV.

Thanks man but I think the Shield is a better machine so it would allow it

Noob question...and yes I've been googling for a while now:

I have movies and series on my W10 pc that I want to share on my Android media box, using KODI as player, via my Ethernet network.

Where can I find a guide in setting up the shares etc. I've been on KODI forums but the SMB info is outdated and I cannot find a clear and concise How to...

Please help...I'm tired of copying to my external HDD thats' plugged into my madia box...and please don't advise me to stream..

I download and have my reasons. :sneaky:

Any help would be appreciated.

@MightyQuin Since Win10 and the SMB issue, I find it easier to plug a USB HDD into my router and use that as a central storage. Alternativly you could get a NAS, I use a QNAP which is really nice (full of features).
