Some Help

I need some help being a first timer with wireless networks and adsl.

I am looking into getting adsl (do broadband level 1 from telkom), my needs are basic. I would like to set it up so that i can connect my two laptops to the network and make use of the adsl.

On the telkom application form (http://www.do.co.za/broadband/forms/dobroadbandorderform.pdf) they ask you to choose your Broadband modem (usb or Wifi), and state that subscribers receive a free WiFi Modem.

In other threads i have read most users recommend a linksys WRT54G router.

Do i take the telkom modem, or get my own router? or do i need both the telkom modem and the router aswell.

Please help, i am confused!

Get your own modem/router, dont tie yourself to that 24 month contract just to receive a free modem

yea, the marconi router combos is crappy. Rather get WRT or even a billion will do the job nicely.

Anything you guys can reccomend?

I dont wanna be locked into a 24 month contract so i prefer to get my own hardware. (Already sold on the WRT54G)

you will still need an ADSL router to plug into the ADSL line.

WRT54G is just a wireless router not wireless and ADSL router.

And the prices on a ADSL modem is not that heavy.
