Some questions for Windows phone users

Beware the 1520. It's HUGE. If that's OK with you, it's a magnificent device. It took me about a week to get used to it. Now I could never go back to a smaller screen. It's glorious. Though a mere 20 megapels, the cam in some cases matches or even exceeds the 40/39 megapels on the 1020. Software makes the diffs.

Wireless charging is nice to have. Just plonk it down and the juice flows inductively. It does make the phone heavier than otherwise, but worth it in my view.

The cam on the 1020 is insane. You can get a cam-grip add-on for pro shots.

Almost all my posts are on the 1520 as I'm bedridden at present.

Final couple of questions :

1. Does it do USSD codes?
2. Can it run the following apps :
Whatsapp
Telegram
Evernote
Gmail
Gtalk/Trillian
SMS
Wifi analyzer (applet which measures wifi signal strength)

1. Yes it does
2. I'm running whatsapp, gmail and sms. I've seen evernote in the app store but have not used it. Telegram, gtalk i can not say.
And finally i have been looking for an app like wifi analazer but have not found anything yet.

Telegram - Migram BETA
There are 3rd party GTalk apps on the store, Google seems to hate WP. They took over a year to release an update for their only app on the store - Google Search

As for a Wi-Fi analyzer, WP doesn't allow apps down to that level of interaction with the drivers currently, so you can't get a Wi-Fi analyzer. Not sure how much this will change with 8.1

Does that mean I'll have to use Bing?

Or I can open a web browser, go to google.co.za and search for whatever I want?

Bing is fine, if you prefer you can have Google set as the search provider in IE and just search in the address bar or go to google.co.za

The Bing search you get when hitting the search button is actually very useful, it does Web/Images/Video/Local

Under local it will list businesses close by that relate to your search query with numbers/directions etc.

Another thing : Currently my Samsung phone, when I plug it into the PC via USB, asks me whether I want to connect to the PC or not.

Does the Lumia connects automatically, or will it wait for user authentication before connecting?

Do you need an antivirus program?

I'm using ucbrowser. Actually very nice and quick. Have google set as default search provider.

Where would be the cheapest place one can buy a Lumia 520 or 720? Preferably an on-line store. I see the mtn store has the 520 for R1899 and the orange store has the 720 for R2905. Are these good prices?

It will ask you the first time like with any usb device. After that it will perform the default action u chose.

Antivirus i haven't thought about to be honest.

Edit. I might have understood you incorrectly there.
There is no choice or options on the phone itself. It will automatically connect a a usb device.

No AV needed, WP hasn't even been rooted/jailbroken properly yet

Takealot have the 720 for R4899 :wtf: ...which makes the orange store's R2905 seem like a good deal. No/yes? Would prefer the 520 though :/

2905 is a ridiculously good price. My 720 was about 4500 last year. I'd take the 720 over the 520 given a choice.

Im also considering jumping ship.
I ran the launcher 8 for a bit on my android to see what it is like and I could live with the way it works.
It seems most of my apps that I require are available so that isnt really a problem.
