Good day,

I've been listening to some of the explanations from your Techies about the network faults.
I have a few suggestions.

1) Out-of-band management
Install a Telkom line, or a cellmodem.
When a site needs to be rebooted, or if you need to remotely admin it when it goes down, just dial into it.
WBS runs a large radio network, surely you can get some sort of low speed serial equipment in there... 9600bps is more than enough to type a few commands.

2) Let your customers know what is going on.
When something breaks, everyone calls the help-desk, which isn't very helpful anyway.
A bulletin board on your website, or a mass email. Even if they only recieve the fault report after its been fixed, they'll be grateful.
Sometimes it even seems that your help-desk personnel dont know whats going on.

3) Get proper SLA's in place with your technicians.
If a site goes down, a technician that is on standby must drop everything and get out there.
I'm hearing more and more tales of the network being down for a few hours, because a techie was in a movie.

These are things that your customers want, they are paying for a service, not excuses.

I hope these suggestions will be considered.

Regards,
Kieran Murphy.

I read, I understand, I comprehend, I will look into such issues.

Greay to see your effort Shaun. Perhaps you could (while looking through these forums) draw up a list of issues we have, then respond to those. We could make it a sticky (like the other topics) and discuss things like that in an orderly fashion with you only having to look on one thread?

Thanks again for the participation. All the b1tching and moaning from me seem to have paid off ;) Thank Ramlall and Parvin for that too :D

Sounds great

Will make a list of my current issues i have personally encountered in the field. This should help many clients with linked problems.

What about you starting the sticky. Let me take them one at a time. Clean them up. Close the section of the sticky handled. Then the next one can be added.

My only problem is time. Some 18 hour days make it a bit difficult to hit the web, believe it or not. Am i gonna get flamed for answering every 2nd or 3rd day. I will make a concerted effort for daily, but will not promise.

Comments??

ps Thanks for the suggestion

A suggestion to the mods :
1. Rename the current Iburst forum to Iburst - General. Create new 1 : IBurst Issues. All the different probs can then be created under Issues, each a new thread. Makes it easier to monitor, moderate and lock once completed. In this format it can also serve as a FAQ. No Stickies until later

2. Alternatively, create Iburst as a group with the 2 (or more) forums underneath. Same procedure as above. However, I'm sure this will screw up a lot of existing links to these forums.

What you say ?

Great to see participation from someone inside the machine.. That is where Telkom and Sentech have fallen flat on their faces.

Shaun Green - if people flame, you should know it's because everyone is fed-up with having Telkom all these years and nothing else - so now we are all hoping for the holy grail of internet connections so most people are very hopeful.. and anything that could dash that hope will receive the wrath of someone who has been waiting for a decent connection just about all their life.. well that's my take on it anyway hehehehe :)

Well done to Shaun Green and vodacom3g for their public participation and willingness to communicate with their users..

[post=156651]Click here[/post], all that is left is for the existing issues raised to be addressed, one at a time ;).

Yay!

Shaun, complete respect for responding to us. Most of us are technical IT personal, or at least tech savy. Were pretty active ibursters and can be a wealth of useful (and in noone case, mostly useful)information.

We understand were still pre launch, but just try keep us informed as to what is happening, and when we might expect down times. If theres any way we can constructivly help you to make this service better, let us know.
