ok these are sales form the 17th of june:

Wii 228,735- 8,402,496
Xbox360 75,421- 9,888,469
Ps3 54,738- 3,532,915
weekly----- Total

And these are sales from 15th july:

Wii 245,546-9,298,258
ps3 79,680-3,777,135
xbox360 57,567- 10,137,628

Ok, so in the space of a month the xbox an ps3 sales have completely flipped, I mean the ps3 had 54,738 sales on 17th june while the xbox had 75,421 sale on the 17th of june.
The a month later, The ps3 has 79,680 sales on the 15th of july and the xbox360 has 57,567 sales on the 15th of july.

WHAT HAPPENED??? I mean did the unreliability of the 360 get to it and the customers went to sony's shed? Or did the price cuts actually do some good??? I sure didn't see this coming, and I'm a fan boy. Link:http://vgchartz.com/weekly.php?date=39278

The games looked really good for the PS3 at E3, they felt solid, I think many people who were waiting to see what to do in terms of next gen felt like the PS3 has started heating up, it felt a much more secure buy now, what with the nice little price drop and exciting stuff coming up. Yes the machine does not fail at the rate the Xbox 360 does, and I think people just said "oh what the hell if it has a game library half that of the PS2 at the end of its life it would be worth it" A solid console from a manufacturing capacity with some good looking little titles on the way, some of which are smaller, download and play style arcade flavour games but are rather innovative makes for higher sales.

I think people have gotten over the graphics comparisons between the two company's and have started to go, hey the games for next gen look really good no matter which of the two consoles I go for.

Definately a combination between a good E3 showing and the price cuts (agreeing with CrazyMadMan).

My feeling is that people are starting to feel more upbeat about the PS3.

There might not have been any "official price cut (excl bundles)" in the PAL regions but 2 retailers are already selling the 60GB console at ÂŁ350 over here in England, roughly R4900 for direct conversion, this being ASDA (UK Walmart) and Shopto.net.

If i'm not mistaken thats a tad bit more than what the PS2 debuted for when it hit S.A many years ago.

Elsewhere the you can find bundles like the Console with and extra controller and 2 Games for ÂŁ400 (R5600).

I'm definately picking one up shortly and hopefully these deals make it too S.A without Ster Kinekor price gouging too much.

Yep. Major factor was a lot of people were waiting for the heavily anticipated PS3 price cut and then all went out and bought it at once. I expect to see PS3 sales drop for a bit from here. Minor factor was that MS had a very bad month with their defect admission. And at the same time, the PS3 had a pretty good e3.

Xbox is in a position to dominate the next 6 months though. Lots of really good release between now and christmass. Halo3, Mass Effect, GTAIV etc. Big Live update (hopefully not another pac man), scheduled for October. If they throw in a price cut as rumoured as well, then it's probably going to be the 360 high water mark. I expect the PS3 to start fighting back strongly after that though.

Nice to see overall though. PS3 still has a lot of fight left in it. I still think it's biggest weekness is going to be that an XBox 720 or something will be launched years before the PS3 lifespan is over.

Hmm, one month does not a trend make.
It just may be that the PS3 had a few much-anticipated releases in that time, and game-starved PS3ers went ape.

just agreeing with everyone else here.

Sony had a fantastic E3 plus a price drop while Microsoft had a crappy E3 and reliability problems....

My crystal ball says that Microsoft is going to clean up in this holiday season (ignoring the juggernaut that is Wii for a moment) and will hold the lead easily until March 2008. Then unless they do something the PS3 will start catching them.

However as has also been mentioned just as the PS3 is getting into it's stride the next Xbox with better hardware will be released which could stop the PS3 in it's tracks.

I expect the next Xbox to arrive in 2010 and Sony have said they expect the PS3 to last 10 years

I find it interesting how people say MS had a bad e3, and vice versa for Sony. While I credit Sony for having a much better E3 than last year, announcing new products etc, it's a bit narrowminded to say MS had a bad one. Yes, they didn't show anything new, which I guess is what people want, but they showed more '07 AAA releases than anyone else. Quantity and quality wise I think they outshone everyone, they just fell short on new stuff, which was a bit dissappointing.

I found a video this morning that wraps up the E3 from a hardware perspective...

However I think M$ had a bad E3 since they didn't announce anything new, they could have skipped E3 completely and still had the best gaming line up. When you know your competitor is going to announce some groundbreaking things (Killzone 2 and price cut) then you need a response.

They fell flat I feel

I think it was more that E3 was just bad. Just wasn't the big show that it was before where the companies made all their major announcements. Basically not that important anymore.
