Some traders charge to Rica SIM

Back when I still worked, we were sent on RICA training, and one of my first questions was 'do we keep a copy of the ID and Proof of Residence' - the answer, obviously, was no, and I knew then that the concept, while noble on some levels, was doomed to fail since no proof was kept on record.
 
The PEP store in my area only allows people to RICA new sim card bought at that very store. Shoprite on the other hand on allowed RICAing until 3pm. :(
 
The PEP by us refused to rica my sims as I did not purchase a phone from them...

Which is completely fair and acceptable. Why should they waste their resources on processing RICA for other companys' clients? And, since we do not yet live in a communist regime, it is also acceptable to charge for your time and infrastructure to render a service such as RICA.

Dude, we knew from the first day it was announced that it was going to be a complete and utter joke.
I could have told you this two years ago.
 
Pep Stores told us afewmonths back that we cannot Rica our phones unless we bought the phone/sim card by them.

I wouldn't be surprised if my number gets registered as me living in some other town.
Perhaps I should also apply to be a Rica registrant, then I can register who ever I want....
 
There's no bigger indication of the farce that RICA is than the bulk RICA system which allows companies to pre-RICA SIM cards en masse with a single person's details so that when they are sold they are already activated and the customer does not have to wait for the RICA to go through. Most retailers have been doing this, and the proviso is that when they are sold, the clerk will get the customer's details and issue a RICA update... yeah right.

Furthermore, if you are a primary RICA agent you can go into the system and create as many RICA agent logins as you wish and hand them out to whoever you want to so that ultimately every man and his dog is a "RICA agent" who can themselves just login and RICA anyone they feel like, without any need to retain documentation or prove that they had sight of an ID or a proof of residence.

Maybe because it's not about the company but about having people comply with the law?

Also strange that some people of the demographic most likely to be involved in cellphone crime didn't have to supply proof of address when Rica'ing .. just proves what a farce the whole process is.
 
Hmm ..i haven't RICA'd with CellC, i guess i will just have to live through no phonecalls until i decide to leave the house :D

My partner bought a prepaid rica-ed simcard for his son at a cellphone shop in the Moot area. They did not even asked his name
