Someone gave xrapidx a 40D

Dust image thing? :confused:

If you feel uneasy cleaning it yourself then get someone else to do it.

I've heard nothing but good thing - qn is can you wait and live with the dust spots in the meantime?
 
Does tha canon not have a facility to check for dust in set-up? The pentax K20D maps where the dust is on your sensor, which is pretty cool.

Mapping dust data? Sure - but for something that size I'd clean it. The 40D auto sensor cleaning might even take care of it if can be dislodged.

I had something similar, and the blower worked wonders.

Definitely sensor dust. You usually can't see it with a naked eye, you need a gadget like this to see it. If you have a blower try that (search this sub-forum for blower, someone found an interesting blower in your valley). Otherwise, you can try Bwana's brush method, or failing that, take it into a place like Orms, I'm sure they can do a wet clean for you. Whatever you do, don't use your mouth to try and blow it away. Also, don't use canned air - those aren't always as pure as they should be, and they can cause freezing (condensation) on the sensor through adiabatic expansion of the gas.

Spoke to Orms - they said they'd do it for me when I go in to today.

Heard some horror stories that this specific dust looks like grease, piece of metal from a lens - etc. So I'll take it in instead of messing around/
 
I took the camera to Orms - they cleaned it - came back - and its still there. Reason for concern? I can actually see the thing on the sensor, not sure what it is though.

Here it is, resized to 50%.

Did they do a wet clean, or just puff around with a blower? I can see at least six blobs in addition to the main one, so I'd take it back to them.

Not sure - he went and did it in the back - didn't charge me.
 
How long have you had it? Less than a month? I'd take it back and tell them to clean it good or give you another one.
 
Agree with koffie. If you can, print the pic you showed here (or even take it along on a flash disk), so that they can see the problem.
