Hey Guys

My girlfriend has had the same number on Vodacom for the last 10 years.

All of a sudden she is getting calls from banks and debt collection agencies, they are looking for some dude, can't even pronounce the name who is obvoiusly using her number to register for things under his own name.

We try telling the companies who phone that this is the wrong number, but the calls persist.

I can't think of anyway to help her out does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Apart from getting her a new number I'm not sure what can be done. I supposed blacklisting those numbers after they call is an option.

Well, if the person is using your girlfriends number then they are technically calling the right number, what you must tell them is someone has used your GF's number instead of their own and they must trace it back with ID numbers and such.

Exactly, the person is giving out your girlfriend's number.

I don't think any number is "new" any more so that's probably a pointless effort.

Actually FNB Connect ones might be the newest on the block.

I took out a CellC contract 8 years ago, and got a recycled number. Had debt collectors phone me at least once a month for the 5yrs I had that number. I then gave the contract to my SO and to this day she still receives calls and SMS threating legal action.

Mr Fensham whoever you are, please pay your electric express account!

No, dont say its the wrong number. Say that the person used your GF's number instead of their own.

Agreed.

It's the right number but the wrong person. :p

When they call say the number is yours and has been for years and you've never heard of the person they're asking for. Add that these calls started recently so it's possible someone typed the wrong number into their computer, or even that a person unknown is giving out a false number to their creditors

Help the poor caller to get the facts as you know them.
