My daughter's Vodacom pay-as-you-go account is losing value at an alarming rate. It looks like someone else is charging SMSes and downloads against it (this is not a 3G phone).

Examples (these are via my wife):
On 17 may she had R16 remaining; on 18 may 19c remaining but had not used the phone.
They added R55 airtime. This morning there was R29 remaining. My daughter had sent 3 SMSes and that's it.
Mrs SecretCode phoned Vodacom and was told there was a record of 6 SMSes having been sent - 3 @35c and 3 @80c, plus "5 songs downloaded @ R7.50 each".

Is it possible for another person to effectively steal your pay-as-you-go airtime? Could there be a duplicate somewhere - do we have to get a new PAYG starter pack and change the number?

Regarding the "songs", Vodacom gave us the number 011 447 0541 to "unsubscribe" but we can't get a real person there and are not sure what it is about.

Can anyone from Vodacom shed some light?

Joe

myron networks?

Dump the card and get a new one - the R7.50 is possibly a subscription service that was inadvertently subscribed to as a result of misleading advertising by these 35XXX services advertised on TV or elsewhere (small print not read). I wish the Cell cos would ban these bloody subscription crap advertised on TV.
There was a thread like this before where the person swore no subscriptions were entered into and thru the help of V3g it was found that the service was in fact subscribed to but. as said above, inadvertently due to misleading advertising on the part of the service provider.

yip....new sim card needed.....that money is definatly going to a subsciption service. Maybe your daughter subscibed by sending a sms to 35xxx not knowing the implications.

^^^ what he said

it's better to get a new prepaid card than to go through the hassles of finding out what exactly is going on where.

Will irritate said company leeching off airtime from your SIM... thank goodness my wife and I'm not in the habit of downloading songs, ringtones and stuff they advertise on television - I mosey over to Zedge (or any other free site) where you can download sis files (nokia) for installation at leisure without being hit by hidden charges. :D

Just be glad you're not on a contract...

Lol she signed up for some subscription thingy. that R7.50 is coming of every day or once week depending on the service.

Definitely some sort of subscription service. Surely there must be a way to unsubscribe via the cell network seeing as they're the ones billing you?
