SONA 2018 has been postponed

I wonder how much support the NEC needs to carry a decision forward. Half of them are already Zuma supporters so it wouldn't be simple for the Zuma-must-go. He'd not even need to pay them in cash. Just a bunch of promises of contracts and tender cuts until 2019.

I think even those half are waivering, given the criminal stuff looming.

It indicates that they don't trust or want Zuma to give the SONA which means he must be on his way out.

Except that according to Mbete, as they were drafting a request to Zuma to postpone it, they somehow realised Zuma also wanted to postpone it, weird:

"Mbete says that as Parliament was preparing to write to President Jacob Zuma to request the postponement of his address, he was already doing the same." (http://ewn.co.za/2018/02/06/mbete-sona-2018-postponed-no-date-set).

So why would Zuma himself want to postpone? To give time for a purge?? /tinfoil hat

The sort if money Zuma and co are willing to bribe, some of the NEC members will surely accept? Every man having his price and all!

Epic battle nonetheless

The problem with this is ... why vote for Zuma, no matter the price for someone that is already not in charge of the ANC Presidency or NEC? Have to look beyond April 2019 when there is a new sheriff in town. New sheriff might be just like the old sheriff, but you need to look forward.

Maybe he was scared and didn't want to face the insults that were ready for him

Are they all psychic?

I presume he sent them a letter or made a phone call.

and he's undoubtedly singing this in the mirror today ...

Something most people don't think of, but a postponement causes additional expense and inconveniences hundreds if not thousands of participants in the ceremonies, army and civillian. Army units from far afield participate and they will now have an additional period on stipend and many of them are reservists who took off work for the week of rehearsals prior to the opening. Things like transporting the ceremonial guns, the various military bands etc etc, not to mention the security personnel that are all now on standby while this is sorted out. It all costs time and money.

Which also highlights what a fkn waste this event is.

"Create room for a more conducive political environment"

ie, boot Zuma out...

When its not your money, you tend to blow it on crap. Any of these type of events are a waste of money. Hell they have a bar in parliament.

I'd also want to anaesthetize myself before a Zuma ramble

They don't ask him to postpone..

The Speaker has dictated, therefore it is postponed, he has no say in the matter.

I saw their statement, and they said they had gone to him to ask if it could be postponed, and when they got there he was already writing a letter to parliament asking for SONA to be postponed...yeah right.

Just a face-saving excercise for the bugger. They still afford him too much respect.
