Sonoff - icasa / nrcs approval

I think everyday I get more and more confused when it comes to the "requirements" for Sonoff smart switches for example with regards to icasa / nrcs / LOA approvals. Basically Sonoff Africa and Smartkit to a certain extent mention that there devices has the necessary approvals but nowhere do I see any of those marks on the devices advertised (maybe the real ones has the stamp) and I am really starting to wonder if the higher price for these products are worth it seeing that only their websites mention it. Can anybody enlighten me please?

ICASA issues Type Approvals and you dont really have to worry about that as they would only knock on your door if you interfered with other RF signals. That the product is supposed to have the stamp you refer to.

NRCS issues LOA's and there you would only be concerned if your house burnt down or you needed a COC. The former is highly unlikely and the latter also, but the electrician could be pedantic and request it. No stamp required, but the importer pays levies you are unaware of.

The risk lies more with the importer when bringing the goods in to the country, so as an end user you do not have to worry as much. Having said that it would be nice to know they are approved locally so if you are concerned ask your supplier for a copy of the necessary certification. If it has RF the TA, and if it switches power - light switch, SSO plug, relay, has a PSU, then ask for the LOA

Sorry there are a few acronyms, and bear in mind if you import anything direct you need these certifications in your own capacity.

I'm looking for an NCRS compliant, DIN mountable smart controller that is thin (maximum as thick as a CBI Astute, but definitely thinner than a SONOFF POW).
I have a CBI Astute that has stopped working, but don't have space in my DB for a wider controller.
Not keen to just replace the Astute as it links into the Tuya environment but I'm primarily looking for eWelink

These are even better, ESP Home or Tasmota. Fully offline, no cloud connectivity.

Ask yourself if Sonoff will still support the devices in 10 years time. At some point they are going to turn off the server or block older devices, Tasmota and ESP Home users will shrug and carry on with their day....
