I recently installed a Sonoff SV as a dry contact for my garage door motor.
For some reason the device kept going offline at random intervals and i would need to power cycle it to bring it back online.

After this afternoon, i went to power cycle the device but it did not come back online.
I took it down and when connected to my computer i notice that the relay does not "tick" on when toggling the device.
Both the green and red LED's light up when toggling the relay.

I assume this could possibly mean that the relay is buggered?
I also need to find out what killed it in the first place before i install another one.

i have heard of similar when goes feed power back in to the unit. did you make it isolated?

I has a Basic on a plug and someone plugged in 2 heaters. The relay clicks, but the Live Out if dead. Guess it was just overloaded. Maybe similar with your SV?

Possibly, i have a second one that i will give another shot with.
I have found that the garage door motor has a 24v and a 12v output, i will give the 12v out a go this time.

Don't chuck it away if the input still works. You can use it to see is power is on. I have a my broken Basic doing just that. If Eskom is off I can't access it. If Eskom is on I can. (Routers on inverter).

Thats not a bad idea. I currently use an old cell phone (Old Sony Xperia Z) permanently connected to the charger. If the power goes off it updates our telegram group to notify us the power is out.

@ The_Unnamed - I'm OT for sure, but what app do you use for that functionality?

I was using an IFTTT originally. I have since switched to using the home assistant companon app. Trying to keep as much of my environment running off a single ecosystem.
I will be switching the phone to become an always on dashboard for the kitchen. Its only a small screen but its good enough for triggering lights and music at home.

Just to bring this topic back from the dead, it doesnt seem like the Sonoff SV is actually dead. Its working completely fine in another project.
However, a second Sonoff SV i have installed into the garage is also not working.

I have attached a crude diagram of how it is currently connected.

The Digidoor 24v connections are outputting 19.80v. As soon as i connect only the Sonoff SV + and - to the digidoor it immediately drops down to 9v. The sonoff does not power on, no LED's turn on.
However, when powering the Sonoff SV from a 5v power source (Cellphone charger) it works perfectly fine, the connection also correctly closes and opens upon pressing the button.

Does anyone have any smart ideas?

So if you remove the common/trigger what happens?

Have you made the sonoff isolated?

You have plus and minus the right way around?
I did, and i double checked it with the multimeter.
The strange thing is the black IC on the back of the sonoff gets warm to the touch after maybe 5 minutes.
I can't help but think something is shorting out the device, but i just cannot figure out what.

that is 24v DC right?

and if you measure it is it 24V exact, less or more?

do you have a buck converter around at all?

It measures 19v. When the Sonoff is connected the voltage drops down to 9v.
I do not have a buck converter, but i am thinking of just running a cable from the 12v power supply that feeds to the gate motor.
