Sony aims to sell 100m PS3s

..and they've actually got to get around to manufacturing the damn things. The way they're going though, they've probably lost a huge market share with their late delivery

Plus the fact they they are probably going to implement those security measures that'll prevent people from sharing games ect.
Unless the new cell processors kiks MS a$$ I'll go the Xbox way.

Well I'm not going to be one of the 100 million. Time to try an Xbox360 and a Wii instead.

That's $60 billion. Which is just under their annual total revenue worldwide.

I don't think he meant that they will sell them in a year. So far Playstation 2 sales are over 100 Million AFAIK...PS2 is 6 years old. So they expect to sell as many PS3s as they have PS2s...

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply they'd sell 100million in one year, just to put it in perspective in relation to their revenues.

Sony don't actually make any money selling the consoles. Each console is infact sold at quite a loss. The real money is in the content, ie. games; services; online multiplayer subscriptions etc...

Expect game prices to be astronomical, somewhere in the range of R500 - R800.. And you think the console will be expensive, think long-term costs, now that's expensive..

Sony PS3 may be launching later than the Xbox 360 but I wonder if anyone remembers the Sega Saturn. They entered the market way before the PS2 and when the PS2 came out the Saturn had no chance. The price will be steep to start with as it has been with all the Playstations but it will drop so to be on the safe side wait at least a year that way you can gauge success and price. But if you're like me and are eager to get you hands on one at least you can say you have a PS3 as well as one of the first blu-ray disc players.
