Has anyone else heard there is a class action lawsuit against Sony over the PS3? Read yesterday on another forum, Sony is being sued for:
1. Removing the "install other OS" in the new update
2. Removing the backwards compatibility for Ps2.
3. Marketing the console with 8 processors and only 7 work?

Will look for more info.

they should be taken to task for the 1st two on your list !

Actually, it contains 9 processors, and 1 is disabled. A further 1 is exclusive to the hypervisor. So in theory, there ARE 8 WORKING processors (1 PPE and 7 SPEs).

Good, they should be sued for promoting those features, then removing them. On the other hand removal of the install other OS feature might encourage more effort being put into breaking the security on the console. And Sony won't have a leg to stand on if they try to stop it through the courts.

good, its a big middle finger from sony to remove features of my console. So F em, i will now fully support custom firmware and hopefully future piracy on their console.

Why is the one disabled? Maybe they will enabled it for the 3D.

It's disabled to improve manufacturing yield. That way, Cells that have a broken SPE can still be sold.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I choose Sony over microsoft any time. I'm hoping that sony sometime soon release their own operating system for their vaio laptops and hopefully for the PS3. I blame the guy who hacked the PS3 and I don't blame Sony for taking precautionary measures even if it means that some peoples experience is somewhat soured

I too am a PS3 supporter, and always have been. But the principle applies. I bought the 60 gig, just for those features, they are now removing. To ME, they are important. So in order for me to keep it the way it is, i mustn't download the new update. But then i also can't access PSN, or play online. So either i download the update OR buy the new slim. Thats R3500 rand penalty in my books, borne by myself. I just don't like how they forceing this option. It's an ultimatum of sorts.

No one can blame sony for protecting there property. I mean, some little prick hacked the system that cost millions to produce. Blame that guy, not sony. Even if they hack the system completely. i'll still buy originals. Can someone please tell me why in this world do you want to install linux on the PS3 anyway??? GET A PC FOR THAT.

Why would anyone want to spend money on a PC when they can run linux on a PS3?

I don't know whether it is funny or scary how some people just can't wait to fall down and worship companies like Sony.

This is a win-win situation for the public though. Either Sony re-instates the features they used to lure customers or they effectively give open permission to the hackers out there to break the system so we can use those features. The latter is a bigger win though because it opens the door remove other nonsense like movie region locks.
