Sony cuts PS2 price

Sony is cutting the price of its older generation PlayStation 2 (PS2) videogame consoles to $100 in a move prompted by tough economic times and a desire to lure fans to the platform.

I am shocked when i see the price of a ps2 in this country. 2k most places.

Nice to see sony keeping the PS2 going, still has a market at a good price with cheap games.

Cant you pick up a ps2 bundle at makro for something like R1300? Actually miss my ps2, if our big chain stores can manage to sell at R999.99 then im definitely considering investing in some ps2 goodness.

I tip my hat at how much money the PS2 is still making Sony. How many years has it been out now? Like 8?

Pity that there are hardly any games being released for the PS2 these days. Usually less than 5 or so a month, if you're lucky. And out of those, not many appealing titles, so it looks like Sony are milking the ignorance of the economically challenged majority..

True that there aren't many good new games. I just wish that they would re release some of the great older games, ones that I missed when they game out. Stuff like resi 4 and gta are great games, but near impossible to find.

It was first released back in March 2000 in Japan.
So yeah, it's amazing the longevity this console system has shown.
Quality of games like God of War I and II have also helped in that longevity. I mean these games imo are better than most of the games on the current gen systems.
