Sony Ericsson is dead. Long live Sony.

Knowing Sony, expect the phones to be locked down like there is no tomorrow, also add some $$ just for the name :)
 
If Sony can combine a BIS type platform with Android they'll make a killing.

Locked ? um sony gives you a keycode you need on there site to unblock the phone !

Ive been Using SE phones for a while and they been great dont give me much issues at all.
But hay SE is going to be just S

That I recon is more Ericson than Sony.

Remember Sony is the company that removed The "Other OS" and installed rootkit on your PC so you dont copy music
 
Jaa i had the X1 SE hated the phone put me off sony erison for life ( still got the phone .good modem sh$t phone )
happy as a pig in sh$t with my sgs2
 
Like anyone didn't see this coming. It was clear from the way they handled the X10 that SE weren't interested in competing anymore. Pity though, since they made some of the best phones of all time. OF ALL TIME! /Kanye West mode off
 
Sony proprietary memory cards??? Ill never buy one then.
 
The rumoured Xperia Duo should be an indication of the direction Sony might be taking. Launch it with the currently rumoured specs and it would be a class leader however, i seriously doubt that is going to happen. I won't lie though, i own an arc and only took it, on my contract, because it "looks and feels" so much better that every other droid and i've enjoyed using it thus far.
 
RIP Ericsson... Can remember my first Ericsson flip lid phone... was great...

Sony smartphone with large touchscreen - CHECK
Sony Tablet - CHECK
Sony laptops - CHECK
Sony PC's - CHECK
Sony high end giant LCD TV's - CHECK

Ye Gods! Apple is turning into Sony if they also enter the TV biz as rumoured!
 
But yes, Sony locking down their equipment has caused problems for them in the past.

After all, it was Sony locking down the MiniDisk players so that they could not play MP3's that created the gap for the iPod and caused Sony to lose it's whole Sony Walkman market. If that had not happened, Apple would probably have been extinct by now, they were losing money before Sony created that gap in the market.
 
I had a SE. It failed miserably in pretty much all departments. Put me off them royally. Nothing like finding out your shiny phone is **** only 2months into your 24month contract.

Hopefully Sony comes out with something awesome without Ericsson's input, otherwise I'll never ever go back.

Sony has revealed that it is to phase out feature phones and concentrate on smartphones in the future. The Japanese giant has very recently announced its acquisition of the Ericsson part of Sony Ericsson, and with the buy out, effect more change than a simple rebranding exercise.

One revelation is that the company will ditch production of feature phones, such as the W995 and, nigh-on, the entire Walkman range of handsets. Speaking at the company's press conference called to announced the merger, Sony's president and CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, revealed all: "We're phasing out feature phones," he said.

Ericsson’s president and CEO, Hans Vestberg, confirmed: "First of all, Sony Ericsson has gone through a big transformation. They will take the decision they need to make for the company to succeed. And I guess it's a question for the company more than for us.

"The answer is 'yes' from the management," he added.

So, it seems as if the new Sony mobile phone brand will be concentrating on Android solely. Or will it?

When asked whether the new arm would consider buying webOS, Sir Howard Stringer replied, "Never say never". Hmmmm...
