Sony Ericsson is dead. Long live Sony.

I didn't really understand the article did Sony buy Ericsson off or did they just buy the the 50% of Sony Ericsson that Ericsson owned?

After all, it was Sony locking down the MiniDisk players so that they could not play MP3's that created the gap for the iPod and caused Sony to lose it's whole Sony Walkman market. If that had not happened, Apple would probably have been extinct by now, they were losing money before Sony created that gap in the market.

Apple didn't learn from sony's mistakes. It was apple's fierce lock down of the iPhone and iOS. Paired to itunes, file system inaccessible via usb, selected carriers etc that created the gap for Android and they hav only themselves to blame.

Sad thing is I don't think sony has learned its lesson neither has apple

They just bought the 50% of the JV between Sony and Ericsson that Ericson owned.

Ericsson still exists independently - they will now concentrate on network equipment.
 
Still one of the best phones I've ever owned was my SE K800i, gawd I love/loved that phone.

But FYI the SE Arc S is launching next week in SA and the X Pro, X Ray and 2 Android walkmans, prolly getting rid of "old" stock.
 
I loved my X1. The panels were great for mobile UI. SPB created panels that were the front runner of the metro ui design. Plus a real usable keyboard. Then they went Android and now they're Sony.
