Sony Ericsson K810i - First Impressions

Update on the K810i review:

Sadly, after about a month's use, the buttons and joystick are really starting to get to me. My thumbs are sore from typing smss- this is something I never experienced with the K750. Also, the joystick really is a mission to use. Way too indented and way too stiff.

I have been looking around for the perfect phone in this kind of price range and I am yet to find one I can truly recommend.

The K850's buttons and configuration are ridiculous, as is its size.
The N73's buttons are too small and too close together, it is also big.
Motorola is a no-no for me.
Other phones seem to have some really important flaw, like really poor cameras with no flash or something ridiculous.

I am not a happy chappy :(

The buttons should be "loose" by now and so should the joystick.
I thought you were gonna complain about the paint coming off the buttons, but maybe its to soon for that.

Ya, that is what I was hoping, but they really are still stiff. I use my old K750 for off peak free minute calls and the joystick and buttons on that are just a dream in comparison. I;d rather have the paint come off them than them be so damn stiff!!

How do you propose i do that? I have been using the phone for lots of smsing and browsing the internet and they haven't become any looser.

This would not be such an issue for someone who doesn't send a lot of smses or browse the net much off their phones, and I know there are a lot of people out there that don't do a lot of that, but for me, it's turning into a deal-breaker.

You have the P1 don't you? What contract did you get that on?

Its gets looser dont worry. Or it will make your fingers stronger:p
Had a P1, now using a N82. Dont do the contract thing.

What was the P1 like? What issues did you have with it that made you want to change?

And the N82? You happy with it? Issues?
 
Looking at the weekender prices, the P1 is still R1500 payin, the Nokia N95 8GB a whopping R4100 and the Samsung G800 is R1000.

:(
 
I see the Samsung U700 is free on weekender...

2.2" screen, great keypad- apparently screen is poor in direct sunlight. Anyone have one?

So, this P1. Can you use just the 12 normal keys for smsing using a t9 dictionary of some kind? Or do you have to use it as a semi-qwerty keyboard?

Whats semi qwerty?
In my official opinion, its the best phone for writing sms's the P1s ver of T9 is best iv used.
My only problem is the buttons should have been individual or atleast double touch, like the key that has G and H press once for G and twice for H. That would have been better.

The reason for changing it funny enough was I wasnt receiving sms's, I later found out it was network related....:rolleyes:

I honestly dont like the n82 at all. Last night I was thinking of using the K810... was to lazy to swap sims.

It's just there are a lot more buttons on it than on a standard phone, yet it is not a full qwerty keypad so I was wondering what smsing was like. I don't want to have to sit and type out messages on a qwerty keypad. I can do it much faster using the normal keys and T9.

It is full qwerty.
I use a qwerty E61i everyday aswell. So im used to it.

I see. I guess it should be just as fast as normal T9. I mean, you have to tap the same number of buttons to spell a word.

Still R1500 pay-in on Weekender though :(:(
 
I thought you got the k810 on your weekend package.

I did. But the buttons are killing me. Mom's contract up for renewal in April. So thinking of maybe getting something else and selling the K810. If I can find anything to get that is. Still seems that the K810 is one of the best phones out right now.
