Sony Ericsson P990i

Hi everybody,

Do anyone of you know how to browse your wireless “network” via the phone’s WiFi connection? I.o.w access files on my home pc’s HD. (ie. \\homepc\c-drive\ ) ?? I expected this to be standard on the P990. I've got a Wifi network set up at home, as well as have Wifi network at work.

Did I perhaps miss it during my RTFM exercise? Also heard via someone there might be a driver one can install to enable this.. but that’s just a faint rumour.

Just forget about the command prompt... I thought the file was a zip, but I see now that it is in the correct format already... Sorry, must have been thinking of another one :rolleyes:

Anyway, just go to that link, save the file blackthemev2-www.se-uiq.com.utz. Then connect your cable to phone and load up the Sonyericsson software.

Then click on File Manager. Then copy that file to your P990i's memory card. Then, on you're phone... Go, to tools, file manager, and then click on the little icon on the top to the right... Thats your memory card... Then click on the file and install.

@Bruce000, it's been a while since I did this sort of thing in Windows..you're looking for the DOS shell.

The icon for it looks like a black screen with a whiteline on the top and a cursor ( hope I'm not confusing it too much with the Mac Terminal :) )

Have you found it yet ?

In Windows XP it's called the Command Prompt and found under Accessories.

Normally you have to use the address where the bill goes, and normally they give you the option to put a delivery address... Well they did not :( . So it is going to the UK one. I got caught by the same snare, i made my billing address my postal address, and then there was no delivery address...
I just hope they accept it being delivered to my postbox

Is the P990i really smeared with software bugs? A guy at VC told me that they are not supplying the phone currently due to software troubles?

@gecko - not clear what you are trying to do with Wifi? Browse the contents of your PC C:\ ?

The UI isn't that hard to get used to.

MS projects ? Is that a separate MS app?

The phone comes with quickoffice which sports a very usable version of Word, Excel and Powerpoint. ( I have not tried out the last, but the Word and Excel apps are good and allow a very good level of document editing on the phone )

MS Projects is a project management package. If it can do Word, Excel and Powerpoint then that is good enough!
 
Ok...so I finally got LiveTv working today...sorta..kinda.
Got an email that Volantis had finally added the P990 and it should be working. Go to the website..click LiveTv...accept the R10/month charge, and click go. And then I am watching live CNN in a small but ok screen..streaming fine. Very chuffed.
So I exit it...and later decide to go in again and watch some more. Click the CNN link...it tells me that I have already paid and will not be charged again..and i hit the "Get It" button. Umm...the movie player opens (like it should) and a warning pops up that the link does not work.
Ah geez. Have tried the whole day...with JamCams too...(which work fine..but at R1 a visit) but it seems only the first CNN link was a working one..and from now on..the link to open it does not work.
*Sigh*
Speaking to the data support guys is a lesson in both patience and exasperation. They can't seem to grasp what I am explaining...and the only way to come right, would be to sit there with them and show them..but they do NOT allow you to visit in person. So all I get is the usual "we will forward the enquiry to the portal guys" and I guess it will go no further as they will just think I don't know what I am doing or it is the phone. They really don't have a clue when it comes to anything out of their ordinary support questions. They are told it must work..so therefore I must be doing something wrong.
Frustrating..yes. Especially since I seem to be the one and only guy in SA who is attempting this on a P990.
Where do I get the actual url link to LiveTV (CNN) since you don't see the link url on the page (just the button) and I have no idea where to go to now. Can't work out if the second link (if you have already paid for the month) is just a bad one..or if the P990 needs some other bookmark or setting. 3G coverage was fine..and all other settings seem to be ok. It worked the first time..and I am betting fashion Tv would do exactly the same.
Ok..just venting here. Just want everything to work as it should.

@brendonwp - see if you can play with a one before committing. UIQ3 is not to everybody's taste ( although I think it's fantastic)

Also be aware of RAM and firmware hiccups ( you RTFF tho' so you are I'm sure ! ):)

@G26 - you are boldly going where no P990 owner has gone before ! TV is the one thing I will never use my P990 for, sorry ( not because I don't think the phone is capable of it but because I don't watch much TV :p Maybe MTNDD can point you in the right direction ? )

Hi aqualung, yes, I thought I would be able to "surf" my home network, the same as I can access my home pc's files *edit: from my notebook* via my home wifi network. Instead of a LAN cable, you connect the PCs together via the Wifi network. I was hoping my phone would be able to do the same since it's got Wifi.

Anyone knows whether this is possible?
