Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

SE seem to be stepping up their game. If i was in the market for an Android device i would definately consider this :

Looks stunning, decent specs.
However, SE are not famous for supporting thier devices (Satio comes to mind)
Only negative for me is the plastic body, prefer some steel, just feels more solid(sorry to all the GalaxyS owners :))
GSMA preview of this beast : http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_arc-review-553.php

Wonder when its gonna be available here.

ps : its the first phone in the last 3 or 4 months to topple the Nokia N8 as the 'most popular phone' spot on GSM Arena

Underwhelming specs. Very disappointed. And it's plastic. HTC's build quality is light years ahead of anything SE has pushed into the market.

ja, & it apparently, takes much better pics than any other Android phone currently. Its really a tradeoff, Picture quality is most important for me. The specs are not THAT bad anyways.(at least its not 680 processor etc)

Having owned a few SE's in the past I can say that SE build quality is very good, never had a HTC so i dont know.

Lets look at all the specs :) :
the DHD ( or any HTC ) does not have HDMI out
personally I think it looks way better than the DHD
its thinner & MUCH lighter than the DHD
LED Bravia screen vs LCD? for the DHD
Higher pixel density for the Arc screen
Scratch resistant screen for the Arc
:(Dolby for the DHD
:(More RAM & internal storage for the DHD
:(Faster HSDPA speed for the DHD ?

better camera overall for the Arc
HD vidoes at 30fps for the Arc
Gingerbread on release( & SE have seperated Android from their customization to speed up updates)
EXACTLY THE SAME PROCESSOR & GPU ON BOTH
HDMI port for the Arc
Active noise cancellation for the Arc
Bigger battery for the Arc
Plastic body for Arc vs metal for DHD

So. The items in Red are the only specs that are better on the DHD than on the Arc. Otherwise all others are same or better in the SE.

The DHD is a good phone, but i will wait for the Arc thank you:)

You'll be amazed at the image quality of the Desire HD when taking pics, if you just change a setting or two.
No HDMI out? You don't need it, cos the phone supports DLNA.
The Desire HD looks sexy as hell! I love it & one of the reasons I bought it.
Aluminium is heavier than plastic, but it gives the phone a much more premium feel and oozes quality. Also helps when you drop the phone. I've done it twice. :)
Sony LED Bravia engine. Really. I can hear "sales gimmick" from a mile away. The Desire HD's display looks fantastic.
All mobile phone screens are scratch resistant - even my iPhone 3G from two years ago.

Ag, you grab your plastic phone and have fun with it. ;)

:), I will :), I wish they'd release the damn thing already!
I think overseas release date is end on March, so we should get it around end of April or later, jus in time for my b'day :)

And if your TV does not have DLNA? HDMI is pretty useful then :).

Arc has both DLNA and HDMI, so you get both anyway, also the Arc comes with SE's 1500mAh battery which is very well known for excellent batt life. I see no problem with getting an Arc over DHD, especialy when apparently the XPERIA range may be among the 1st Androids to recieve 2.4.

gsmarena had this to say about the screen on the Arc :

Dubbed Reality display, the most interesting thing about the the Arc’s
screen, is its Sony Bravia Mobile Engine, which is expected to improve the
image quality by increasing contrast and sharpness. We were pleased to
find out that it ’s actually doing a good job, rather than just being another
fancy term to place on a press release. You have to keep in mind that this
only works with photos and videos, but after all it ’s where it matters most.
In fact when looked at it from the best angle the XPERIA Arc display is
certainly among the best screens on the market. It ’s got more vibrant reds
and greens than the iPhone 4 Retina display and in case you aren’t into
much saturation you will probably prefer it over the Samsung
SuperAMOLED screens too (though we still find Nokia ’s ClearBlack screens
to be the champion in color reproduction).

Lag ... lag ... lag ... lots of it.

:erm:

I was looking at the reviews on youtube for the Arc and that thing is as smooth as butter! And thats still pre-production software

Bad news, SE expecs disruptions to its supply :
Sony Ericsson released a statement saying that all their employees in the two Tokyo offices are OK, but they expect problems with the supply chains. HTC issued a statement as well saying their operations were unaffected.

Sony Ericsson is not the first company to announce disrupted operations due to the earthquake and the tsunami, the region that was hit is where a large part of the world's electronics are made.

Sony Ericsson is evaluating the situation and looking for secondary suppliers of parts and places to transfer some of the component manufacturing. The full amount of the damage is not clear yet but the company is monitoring the situation constantly and will keep operators and customers up to date.

HTC issued a statement too, saying that their operations will not be affected by the Japan earthquake. They have a framework in place that taps a secondary supply chain in case of a natural disaster.

HTC will keep an eye on the developments in Japan and cooperate with their global supply chain and distribution partners to keep operations running smoothly

so now we wait even longer for the Arc :(
