I have had my Experia for a little over 2 months now and have loved the phone until now. I sent a text before I got into the car and after a 30 min drive I got to my destination, tried to send another text only to find the phone unresponsive and 2 lovely long cracks going down the screen starting at the same point.

I have been reading that this is a common fault caused by overheating that Sony has yet to rectify. I have also been reading how Sony is reluctant to repair the damage but I am off to the Sony shop to see first hand how the situation is treated, I will keep you all informed.

the last I read on this issue, Sony are happy to repair this fault under warrenty as long as its not user damage. Here is the article i found : Sony Z cracked screens/

I thought I was going to have great difficulty proving it wasn't user damage but the people at Cell C (Sony shop is now a Samsung shop in Eastgate) took it with very little questions once I let them know I wasn't the first person this has happened to. All in all this isn't as bad a experience as I thought it would be

Quite impressed by that. Last I dealt with Cell C repairs their service was terrible. Let us know of final outcome please:)

New surprise I just received a sms saying the quote to fix the phone is R3613.00 to repair. Cell C says I should have a letter from Sony stating that the screen is a issue or they wont repair it under warranty. I am about to call the Sony repair center that has the phone to explain to them how this happened but so far it appears that I am going to paying for a contract for that phone without having the actual phone.

Any advice on how to move forward would be very much appreciated

Wow that's not good at all... The Sony Repair Centre is in Midrand, its called SSS. I've lost the contact details, but will try find them for you.

Thank you. I am trying to find any information from Sony international to say that this is a recognised fault because Sony S.A just says its my fault and that the warranty is now void.
