Hey guys,

I've got this laptop (as a desktop) since it was released about 5 years ago. About a year ago,the system started slowing down big time and almost gave it away, but then installed a SSD, and the laptop works very well now.

I am thinking about upgrading the memory now, but not sure how to go about. I'd like to go maximum on this so please tell me what I can do.

Hi,

I am not sure, Intel document "core-i7-900-mobile-ee-and-mobile-processor-series-vol-1-datasheet.pdf" states that i7-720QM CPU support only maximum 8GB RAM (2x4GB). But some laptops from HP with the same CPU officially support maximum 16GB RAM (DDR3). It is probably possible when using newer high density chips and Intel document is outdated.

You can try to put 2x8GB modules for total 16GB, but it require upgrading BIOS as well, so get the latest BIOS from Sony first.

Thanks for this. I'm going to see if there is a BiOS upgrade to go 16gb otherwise I'd just settle for 2 x 4gb
