Sony PS2

Don't think it costs that much, i am sure though it is cheaper than buying new games in the long run.

You could do it at home if you are handy with a soldering iron.
Order the chip from www.modchipstore.com.

Otherwise get it modded at Defcon 5 in PTA or there is a little shop in Van Riebeek Ave, Edenvale close to the game exchange place (not at the game exhange place).

look here for defcon 5 : http://www.defcon5.co.za/common/ps2_modchips.html

Fleemarkets are a bit dodge.. once did not get back the same console I gave them to be chipped...

I did hear about something being released where you just plug in a certain memory card and your "back ups" run after that. Forgot where I saw it.

I must have 200 games here - never played - never had the urge

Hang on, if you have 200 games... why would you want to mod it? for homebrew? I don't think there has been much homebrew development for the ps2 since the psp came out. Still, if you want to go that way, make sure there is homebrew support on the chip. I have an O2 chip in my ps2. awesome chip! Had a large ammount of iso's loaded onto its hdd. As well as a whole lot of mame games. Spent aot of time with Super mario bros!

I was given the games, put one in and nothing happens. It says please insert a PS2 game

Ok, then you need a chip. Defcon 5 is the best place to go, The Modbo is a good chip. They also give you a 2 year guarantee.

You can get it done for around R300-R400. Don't try and do it yourself if your not handy with soldering. There are a few very fine points to solder and if you don't know what your doing can easily turn your PS2 into a brick.

So the whole thing was just given to you? You might want to find out how the backups were played by the previous owner. Otherwise it might not work. Also look into Swap Magic
